James Corden and Ruth Jones have written a final episode for Gavin And Stacey – a special Christmas edition.
A report earlier this year suggested that a Gavin And Stacey Christmas special was in the works, which Ruth Jones later denied. However, the BBC has now confirmed that Corden and Jones have written a Christmas special, which will also be the final episode.
No details about plot or cast have been revealed, but the series regulars, including Corden as Smithy, Jones as Nessa, Steadman as Pam, Brydon as Uncle Bryn, Davis as Dawn, Mathew Horne as Gavin, Joanna Page as Stacey, Melanie Walters as Gwen, Larry Lamb as Mick and Adrian Scarborough as Pete, are expected to return.

Conan O’Brien hosted more than 2,700 episodes of Late Night for NBC.
The series ran from September 13, 1993 through February 20, 2009 before he briefly took over The Tonight Show and then Conan for TBS.
But the comedian didn’t necessarily want to use the title, which began with David Letterman, who hosted it between 1982 and 1993.
He wanted to call it Nighty Night with Conan O’Brien.
“We thought was just really cartoony and funny,” he said on the Inside Conan podcast, which is produced by his Team Coco.
O’Brien and longtime exec producer Jeff Ross were speaking about the early days of the show, before it launched on the show, which is hosted by Conan writers Mike Sweeney and Jessie Gaskell.
However, the former Simpsons writer said that he was worried about being compared to Letterman, but was talked out of calling it Nighty Night by former NBC late-night chief Rick Ludwin.

“I’ve got another family in Telford that I’ve never spoken about,” announces comedian and writer Holly Walsh on a Zoom press call. “Luckily, by writing this, it’s tax deductible.”
She’s joking of course. Since writing a sitcom pilot about two step-sisters who only discover each other’s existence after their dad’s death, Walsh keeps being asked if the premise is autobiographical. It isn’t, but The Other One is inspired by a true story she heard about a man with two families who gave his kids the same name to avoid confusion or being sprung. “I thought that’s such a brilliant story.”
Walsh and her writing partner Pippa Brown turned it into a six-episode sitcom about uptight, high-achieving Cathy (The Windsors and Ellie & Natasia‘s Ellie White) and freewheeling, fun-seeking Cat (Catastrophe and Misfits’ Lauren Socha). Half-sisters just five days apart in age, they...

Since “Veep” series creator Armando Iannucci left the presidential series after its fourth season, television has been longing for his very particular brand of satire. Finally, that longing has been answered: HBO just dropped the official teaser trailer for his latest satire, space comedy “Avenue 5.”
Starring “Veep” alumnus and all-around comedy veteran Hugh Laurie, “Avenue 5” is “set in the future, mostly in space” onboard the titular Avenue 5 space ship. Laurie plays Ryan Clark, captain of the Avenue 5, who — as you can see from the trailer below, set to Harry Nilsson’s “Spaceman” — knows how to charm any passenger who takes up residency on his ship, even in major crisis time. He also knows how to pull off an empty space captain one-liner in any situation, whether it’s “fly safe, fly true,” “let’s keep our eyes on the prize,” or “set your phasers to fun.”

Produced as a feature – 4 TV half-hours – and as a 13 episode web series, Sos: Save Our Skins is the tale of two hapless British geeks who wake up in New York City to discover that the entire human race has vanished. But as they explore the seemingly empty world before them, Ben (Nat Saunders) and Stephen (Chris Hayward) soon realize they’re not alone after all. This new comedy sci-fi adventure launched on FEARnet in the U.S. in April on its new “Twisted Comedy” block and on Blue Ant Media’s Bite TV in Canada. This U.K.-Canada coproduction was produced by Steve Coogan and Henry Normal’s Baby Cow Productions in the U.K. and by Duopoly in Canada.
“We discovered Sos: Save Our Skins in a pitch session at the Just For Laughs Conference and were determined to find a way to finance it,” said Catherine Tait , Executive Producer. “Co-productions are challenging but in the case of Sos, the talent and final results were entirely worth the effort!”
Sos: Save Our Skins was created, written by and stars two of Britain’s in-demand comedy writing teams, Nat Saunders and Chris Hayward. Together they have contributed to hit U.K. shows such as Big Train (BBC), Smack the Pony (Channel 4), Trollied (Sky) and Fit (Cbbc), and created the popular web series Misey Bear(BBC). Sos also stars Hannah Spear (Versus Valerie, Sexy Nerd Girl) as Kill the cannibal and Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) as the voice of Andrew the Alien.
A sci-fi, comedy and horror homage, Sos: Save Our Skins sends Ben and Stephen on a desperate journey to find their loved ones, escape the jaws of death and work out why they’re two of the few remaining people on Earth. But the answer to the mystery is bigger, crazier and more apocalyptic than they could ever have imagined, and it puts the fate of the planet into their very stupid hands.
“Sos: Save Our Skins is part road movie, part sci-fi fantasy, part buddy movie, and even has a twisted love story at its heart, even if one of the lovers is a mass-murderer,” said Director and Producer, Kent Sobey.
The film version of Sos: Save Our Skins premiered at the 39th Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival in February, where Sorespot Movies observed, “[it] does not hold back with the comedy or the wildness of the plot”. The film also screened at the International Horror and Sci-fi Film Festival in Phoenix and the Sci-Fi London Film Festival (April 24 – May 4, 2014). It will screen at the St. Tropez International Film Festival (May 12 – 16, 2014).
The film was produced in association with the Independent Production Fund and with the participation of BBC Worldwide in the UK, FEARnet in the U.S. and Blue Ant Media in Canada.

BBC Three has always been an easy target. Right from its inception, the channel came in for criticism - whether it was people turning their noses up at Snog, Marry, Avoid or middle class, middle-aged mutters about where the licence fee was going.
So when the news broke today that BBC Three is being axed as a regular, broadcast channel - and moving solely online - I wasn't surprised. Sure, the station has produced high quality drama, comedy and entertainment. Sure, it picks up higher ratings than some of the other BBC brands. Sure, it's pretty much the only BBC channel aimed at young people. But, well, it's always been an easy target.
I have sympathy for the BBC. They've been stuck between a rock and a hard place in recent years, as the recession bit and funding was squeezed. With a coalition government that's never been too warm towards...

BBC Three has released a first-look trailer for stand-up comedian and singer Nick Helm's new comedy series Uncle.
Picked up by the BBC after initially airing a pilot on Channel 4, the show follows the story of a dissolute out-of work musician, who forges an unlikely alliance with his 12-year-old nephew Errol.
Speaking about the plot, Helm said: "Across the series, Andy learns to be less selfish, and to be more responsible... basically, he grows up.
"At the start of the series, Andy is a typical 30-something man-child: he's completely stuck in being a teenager and he's made to look after his 12-year-old nephew, who is old before his time.
"They learn from each other - it's all very moral."
The comedian claimed that the project was inspired by West Anderson's Royal Tenenbaums, and said that it fitted into the history of Baby Cow comedy productions.

Tonight five stars, including Towie's Gemma Collins and Hollyoaks favourite Gemma Merna, will cast aside their dressing gowns, prance over to the diving board in their skimpy swimsuits and attempt to pull out something better than a belly flop, all in a bid to impress mentor Tom Daley and us viewers.
Join Digital Spy from 7.20pm as hosts Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay present a shamelessly cheesy 90 minutes of gawking at celebrities' bodies before forcing them to fall from a great height. Go on, don't act like you won't be giving it a whirl...

Mark Gatiss is not only one of Britain's most talented writers, comics and TV actors of his generation, he's also a bloody lovely bloke. It makes you sick, doesn't it? If he wasn't so darn nice, we'd hate him.

The first footage from David Walliams and Catherine Tate's new BBC One sitcom Big School has been released by the broadcaster.
Big School is co-written by Walliams and centres around a dysfunctional staff room and the unrequited love of Walliams's chemistry teacher Mr Church and Tate's French teacher Miss Postem.
Mr Church is just about to quit the school, but stops himself from handing in his notice after falling in love at first sight with Miss Postem.
The show's ensemble cast includes Life on Mars star Philip Glenister as lothario gym teacher Mr Gunn, Frances de la Tour as no-nonsense headmistress Ms Baron and The Thick of It actress Joanna Scanlan as drama teacher Mrs Klebb.
Daniel Rigby (Eric and Ernie) and Steve Speirs (Cemetery Junction) will also star.
BBC Comedy's Mark Freeland said that it had been an "absolute privilege" working with Walliams and the cast.

Let me set the scene for you… you’re sitting at home with friends or family, watching your favourite sitcom when out of nowhere a surprisingly hot sex scene appears. The room goes quiet, everyone starts blushing and you look around to see if anyone noticed it or if you just made it up.
Getting hot and sweaty under the collar while watching TV can be uncomfortable, which is why I propose we celebrate these pause worthy moments together and eradicate all future awkwardness by taking pride in the fact that our favourite characters are finally getting some!
From the obvious to the surprising, this list is proof that sitcoms can be not just funny, but hot as hell!
10. Nighty Night
This wonderfully dark offering from Julia Davis unfortunately ended in 2005 after two series. Nighty Night pushes the boundaries in the case of Jill Tyrell, played by Davis, but this...

Let's all take some time out to thank Kanye West for cleaning out Kim Kardashian's closet of clothes on Sunday's Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Apparently, he only left her with drawers.

The reality star tweeted a racy pic of herself on Monday, wearing a bra and pearl necklace just before bedtime.
"Nighty night," Kim wrote as her caption.
Yeezy taught you well, Kim. Yeezy taught you well {Chris Rock voice}.

Kayne West is one lucky, lucky man. The ever-sexy Kim Kardashian Instagrammed a photo of herself Monday night getting ready for bed and let's just say she's not exactly sporting, er, traditional pajamas. The curvaceous half of Kimye dons elegant pearls and a lacy bra in the stunning vintage-looking pic which she tweeted with the caption, "Nighty Night" to her nearly 16 million followers. We're hardly surprised the always dolled-up starlet even looks fab when she's about to get some shut-eye (and we're currently contemplating tossing out our tattered Pj's). Here's hoping for a line of Kardashian bedtime couture! You know, so we can all pop on...

Kim Kardashian finally posted a photo of herself in something other than a bikini.
This time she's flaunting her assets in little more than a bra, pearls and a fur coat.
"Nighty night," tweeted the 31-year-old reality star as she posted a photo, showing off a sultry look in sexy lingerie. Earlier, Kim tweeted an equally racy photo that showed off her legs in sexy garters and stockings. She also posted some behind-the-scenes photos of her getting her hair done, by none of than Chris McMillian -- the hairstylist responsible for Miley Cyrus' current ultra-blond pixie cut.
Check out Kim's sexy look below:

American Horror Story: Asylum Sixth Teaser Tries To Escape The Horror
It's another day, which means there was another American Horror Story: Asylum teaser trailer unleashed earlier this morning, raising the total to six, and hopefully counting, mini freakouts that will play into the new season.
While the rest of the teasers have been cryptic in nature this latest addition, titled "Glass Prison," seems tame compared to the previous clips we've seen for the past few days. However the clip, which is basically an inmate trying to escape something, still delivered on the sinister and depravity that is American Horror Story, meaning that my nerves have been shot for the day. Take a look at "Glass Prison."
Terrifying? Yes indeed and I will be here front and center tomorrow for the hopefully seventh teaser. Or will Friday be the reveal of a full trailer with the cast in their roles?...

Comedy news from Edinburgh
It's week two of the fringe, and unease about low audience figures continues to thrum beneath the surface jollity. Richard Herring broke cover at the end of last week, writing on his blog about his own experience of low sales for his Underbelly show Talking Cock. "It's a shame that I have taken the chance on a bigger venue," he writes, "in the year when the Olympics/the recession/the dissatisfaction with high prices of everything in Edinburgh (delete or add as applicable – there's no definitive answer) has sucked out all the punters as if someone opened the door on a spacecraft."
In a thoughtful rumination on the subject, Herring predicts that the Edinburgh comedy bubble is about to burst. "It's open...

Julia Davis is famous for creating some of the most uncomfortably bleak comedies of recent times. Now the star of Nighty Night is turning her dark powers to period drama in her new series Hunderby
The writer and performer Julia Davis is too good-natured to show it much, but she's plainly exasperated by descriptions of her work as "bleak" or "dark". They make it sound as if she's deliberately trying to be edgy, and this doesn't chime with her sense of herself. She enjoys watching old episodes of Friends, she insists; she's partial to 1980s movies and upbeat self-help books, and when she writes, she just writes what comes naturally. "I would never say, ooh, let's do something really dark," she says. Yet she is responsible for what are, without doubt, some of the most unsettling characters in contemporary comedy: smiling suburban sociopaths; meddlesome cold-eyed narcissists; horrifyingly mistreated spouses whose...

Stars of the small screen reveal their TV secrets
The stand up: Jo Brand
Jo Brand bats away the suggestion that she's a national treasure. "To me that's someone who has a global reach, like Helen Mirren, or someone who's extremely good, like Stephen Fry. I don't have that. I've just calmed down a bit, and that's only because once I had children I was so bloody knackered I could be nothing but calm." Though her audience has widened as she's written novels, appeared on panel shows and acted in the superlative comedy Getting On, Brand says she's planning to go back to stand-up. "The world has become a horrible place for women again and I want to be gobby about it." Before then, though, she's very happy to talk about TV. "I had aspirational working-class parents who thought you shouldn't let your kids watch crap on telly. If my...

American Horror Story: Our Wish List For The DVD/Blu-Ray Sets
FX's American Horror Story has had a pretty good year so far with a Golden Globe win for Jessica Lange, who (rightfully) received the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. Plus Ms. Lange will be one of the cast members returning to American Horror Story's second season, which will also feature Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, and Evan Peters; all of which will be portraying different characters next year. But while things are looking pretty good for the breakout FX drama, there is one thing (other than next season's top-secret plot) the fans are still in the dark about. And that, my friends, is the release date of American Horror Story: Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD.

Adapted from Chris O’Dowd’s own comedy short for Sky 1 HD screened during last December’s Little Crackers series, O’Dowd will write and also star in a part autobiographical comedic look at his life growing up in Ireland in 1989 in Moone Boy which will start production in the actors hometown of Boyle, Co. Roscommon and Dublin in the New Year and will be broadcast on Sky 1 HD next summer.
Moone Boy is set in a small town in Ireland in 1989 and follows the antics of the youngest member of the Moone family, 11 year old Martin Moone. Martin has a unique perspective on life aided by an imaginary friend, Sean Murphy, played by Chris O’Dowd. Martin’s imagination comes into play both in his childish drawings, which come alive through animation, and in the ridiculous schemes he comes up with, against Sean’s better judgement. Calling Steve Coogan 'a bit of a turnip' is about as nasty as he can get
Small Man In A Book, Rob Brydon's memoir, stops rather abruptly the moment he becomes successful, which is just one of a number of endearing things about it. It was the end of the 90s and Brydon was making a living in radio, but not what you'd call a handsome one. He'd written Marion And Geoff, and he knew it would succeed; he'd also started collaborating with Julia Davis on Human Remains, and felt certain that would work as well. "But I remember saying to someone, 'I'm writing this thing with Julia Davis' and she said, 'Has it been commissioned?' I said, 'No, but it will be.' And she looked at me like I was simple. Like, 'Ah, bless him, he's got his hopes up.' But I knew by then I was on a wave.

Jenn Ashworth’s debut A Kind of Intimacy was published in 2009 and won a Betty Trask Award. A domestic noir about the consequences of isolation which was narrated by Annie Fairhurst, a morbidly obese woman whose fascination with her friendly neighbour led to a shocking and unexpectedly violent climax.
Cold Light is her second novel. An unsettling and darkly comic story of teenage girls in a predatory world, her second novel is no less chilling and narrated by Lola. As she watches her hometown gather to remember Chloë, another girl who apparently died in a Valentines Day suicide pact, another body is unearthed. Lola’s first person narration -alone in her knowledge of the dark story which links these deaths – curves around the reader like a noose around a hangman’s neck. It must be frustrating being Steve Coogan. Sky1 controller Stuart Murphy has revealed his wishlist of programming for the channel. Speaking at the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Murphy explained that he wants to air four to six comedies a year. "[The] Simpsons [was a] really big hit," he said. "We wanted other comedies that felt like that - the family could watch, but with an edge. Modern Family felt like that. "We don't want a lot of surreal. At BBC Three, we commissioned pretty dark stuff like Nighty Night, Monkey Dust, Shirley Ghostman... at Sky I don't think that's going to work. It's about being optimistic, having best in show, and those values tend to clash with dark, sicko comedy." (more)...

… but the Shallow Grave actor is considering a move into comedy after primal scream soul-baring of Lennon Naked
Back in 1994, when Christopher Eccleston was playing a psychotic chartered accountant in Shallow Grave, he spent the best part of a day in a working mortuary pretending to be dead. There wasn't enough money to recreate the mortuary in a studio and, anyway, director Danny Boyle wanted to keep it real. So Eccleston, then 30 and best known for playing Derek Bentley in Let Him Have It three years earlier, was put in a drawer with a Glaswegian member of the crew.
"I was stark bollock naked and the Glaswegian, who was dressed in a parka, Doc Martens and jeans, kept saying, 'Are we finished? 'Cos I'm fucking freezing, by the way.' And all this time, I'm lying not only naked but next to a head that had recently been fished out of the River Clyde.

In addition to roles on such well-regarded British comedies as Gavin & Stacey and Julia Davis' Nighty Night and such series as The Eleven O'Clock Show and My New Best Friend, Marc Wootton truly made his mark on the British comedy scene with the eight-episode High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman, a Borat-like comedy confection in which Wootton performed a variety of eccentric characters--most notably egocentric psychic Shirley Ghostman-- while interacting with real people. Wootton is set to migrate the comedic style of High Spirits along with its central character Shirley to the West Coast of America with his new series, La La Land, which debuts tonight on Showtime. The series finds Wootton again performing an array of characters--in this case, outrageously awful psychic medium Shirley, desperate documentary filmmaker Brendan, and naive cabbie/wannabe actor Gary--as they attempt to find fame and fortune in Los Angeles, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

There's a certain subgenre of comedy that doesn't really have a label; it's the sort of humor that mines painful or uncomfortable situations for humor. Call it Comedy of the Awkward. The Brits are quite successful at utilizing this type of comedy for major laughs; the original version of The Office did this quite successfully, as did Peep Show, Nighty Night, and any of the characters created by Sasha Baron Cohen on Da Ali G Show (particularly Borat). A few years back, British comedian Marc Wootton created and starred in an eight-episode BBC Three comedy series High Spirits with Shirley Ghostman, which found Wootton donning a number of hairstyles, costumes, and accents to play a variety of outre characters who then interacted with the public at large. (It aired Stateside on BBC America in 2006.) The result was a sidesplitting and often painful series of double-takes and belly laughs, especially when...

Man I hate going to the doctor with all the needles and who knows what other things they have to poke me with. Thomas Kuebler's Dr. Nighty Night does not help me with my phobia in the least bit but it's like a horrible car wreck, I just can't look away! This lifesize sculpture of Dr. Nighty Night features real hair, clothing, and props. Dude, me wants with a cherry on top! Read more for pics.
What makes this piece more meaningful is that it's one-of-a-kind. Words really can't describe the talent and work that this represents and I could blab on and on but I'll let the picture talk (since it speaks a thousand words).
Dr. Nightly Night's back story: While Hitler’s regime was known for its sinister scientists, its doctors of death, its Mengele, historically they were not the only dark forces delving into the mysteries of life and immortality.

Just in case you were asleep, out of town, forgot or your Tivo, or other brand of DVR, somehow missed recording one or all of our favorite NBC comedies this week, we’ve got some highlights of what you missed right here. Shows such as 30 Rock, Community, The Office and Parks and Recreation are darn funny comedies that also, in many cases, have continuing storylines that go from episode to episode.
So, its a good idea not to miss one of them or you might be lost the following week. Fortunately, you can catch most of these shows on Hulu if you missed them. Or, you can at least try and keep up with the real funny bits by watching the clips from this week’s shows right here after the jump.
Remember to make sure your DVR is primed and ready to record next week when these shows are on.

LONDON -- BBC head of comedy commissioning Mark Freeland is leaving the U.K. pubcaster to join indie movie and television production banner Hartswood Films, where he will become a senior executive at the family-run company with responsibility to bring in and produce television and movie projects. His new role, which was announced Tuesday, could see Freeland pitching projects from Hartswood to the BBC. In his three-year tenure at the BBC, Freeland commissioned several indie comedy productions for the BBC, including The Keith Barret Show, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh, Shirley Ghostman and Hartswood's upcoming Australian co-production Supernova. Hartswood CEO Beryl Vertue described Freeland as having "real editorial flair" for comedy.
