Since the arrest and indictment of Duane “Keffe D” Davis for the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, people have speculated about whether the Los Angeles Police Department will be reinvigorated to pursue an investigation into the other great tragedy of that era in hip-hop — the 1997 murder of the Notorious B.I.G. But former LAPD detective Greg Kading, who was the lead detective of an interagency task force created in 2006 to investigate Biggie’s murder, tells Rolling Stone that he feels the murder was likely the result of a smaller conspiracy that would...

The actual plot of Michael Bay's 2009 sci-fi actioner "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is rather oblique. In 17,000 Bce, Transformers used specialized, high-tech, sun-killing solar collectors to gather energy from the galaxy's stars. Their ethical code forbid them from snuffing out stars in solar systems that supported life, but one Transformer defied said ethic to deplete Earth's sun. That Transformer was excommunicated and became the first Decepticon. Fast forward to 2009, and the modern-day Decepticons are intent on activating the ancient solar collector once again. It's hidden inside one of the Pyramids of Giza.
"Revenge of the Fallen" was filmed in several locations in the United States, including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and remote places in New Mexico, and Arizona. The Pyramid sequences were indeed filmed in Cairo, and the footage of ancient Egyptian cities was filmed in Petra, Jordan. Many filmgoers might recognize Petra from the climax of the 1989 film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,...

Happy Cinco de Mayo, fellow Americans! This holiday has nothing to do with us, and yet we love to celebrate it anyway. And that's cool; there's nothing wrong with using a holiday as an excuse to learn more about a particular culture. Just make sure you take the time to find out what the day means before you engage in any drunken revelry.
The holiday extends back to the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. Outnumber Mexican armed forces beat back French invaders who were trying to lay claim to the state of Puebla. You can learn more about the holiday and its significance on MTV.com in Josh Wigler's full report. This is MTV Movies Blog though, and I'd be remiss if I didn't take some time today to shout out some of the brilliant Mexican filmmakers and films that can be found out there.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Dramas El Mago and Cronicas took top honors at the 20th Guadalajara International Film Festival, winning best picture in their respective categories at Mexico's top movie showcase. Javier Aparicio's El Mago, the story of a terminally ill street magician hoping to reconcile his past, nabbed the so-called Mayahuel award and a $20,000 cash prize for best Mexican picture. It also won best actor (Erando Gonzalez), actress (Maya Zapata) and the press prize. El Mago was made with a $600,000 budget, small even by Mexican standards. Getting the nod in the Ibero-American category was Sebastian Cordero's Cronicas, starring John Leguizamo as a sensationalist news reporter tracking a serial killer in Ecuador. Cronicas, which took home a $50,000 cash prize, is an Ecuador/Mexico co-production. Other top awards went to Ricardo Benet's Noticias Lejanas for best director, while El Baile de la Iguana walked away with best screenplay. Dark comedy Club Eutanasia scored big with audiences, winning the public's prize.

NEW YORK -- Chris Blackwell's Palm Pictures banner has acquired North American and Caribbean rights to Ecuadorian-born writer-helmer Sebastian Cordero's Spanish-language crime thriller Cronicas. The film, which screened at this year's Festival de Cannes' Un Certain Regard section, was produced by Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Jorge Vergara through the Anhelo Prods. banner. Bertha Navarro and Isabel Davalos also produced, with Frida Torresblanco executive producing. Cronicas, which Palm plans to release next year, follows a Miami reporter (John Leguizamo) who travels to a small Ecuadorian village to cover a series of brutal murders and get the biggest story of his career, tracking a possible serial killer dubbed the Monster of Babahoyo.
MADRID -- The 52nd San Sebastian International Film Festival on Tuesday announced its lineup of 10 films in the Horizontes Latino sidebar, the section that has become obligatory for those interested in the latest films from Latin America. While six different countries are represented, the section is a clear tribute to the burgeoning Argentine cinema industry, which has a production role in six of the 10 titles. Sergio Belloti's Your Life for Peron (Argentina) will premiere worldwide as part of the Horizontes section. The political tale will compete for the 18,000 ($21,700) Horizontes Award against Paolo Agazzi's El Atraco (Bolivia-Spain) and Pablo Jose Meza's Buenos Aires, 100 Km. (Argentina-France). Juan Taratuto's melodramatic comedy It's Not You, It's Me (Argentina-Spain) and Marcos Bernstein's The Other Side of the Street (Brazil-France), starring Raul Cortez and Fernanda Montenegro, will also vie for the prize. Other titles included in the section are: Sebastian Cordero's Cronicas (Ecuador-Mexico-Spain), Leon Errazuriz's Mala Leche (Chile), Santiago Palavecino's Another Turn (Argentina), Ana Poliak's Pin Boy (Argentina-Belgium) and Fernan Rudnik's Little Village (Argentina).
