Amol Palekar claimed that B.R. Films owed him money for the film. he even sent a legal notice to them. They in turn stated Amol Palekar was blackmailing them for more money.
The film was originally titled Pareeksha.
Ranjeeta Kaur was the first choice for the film. But she had date problems. Next Moushumi was approached but she declined for unknown reasons.
The background music in a scene from "Agnee Pareeksha"(1981), would prove to be inspirational for years to come. In the scene where Amol Palekar is trying to give Parikshat wedding jewelry (For Rameshwari) as a gift, a certain instrumental music piece is played. The same tune is sung by Sharon Prabhakar in the movie "Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya". The song was not ever released officially on any audio format, but has been uploaded on you tube as "Zindagi Mein Hum"( Duniya Mein Hamesha Kyon). The third time this tune was used was in the movie "Pathshaala". The tune plays in the intro of "Paathshaala (Theme). It was perhaps taken from a English song.
