I only hope Mihura won't see this
Loumitch17 November 2003
Miguel Mihura wrote the play "Maribel and the strange family" in the fifties. It became a movie with the same title in 1960 and Mihura himself was in the writing credits. This new "Casate conmigo Maribel" version has lost all the humor, tenderness and crispy folly of Mihura's play and movie. Its authors have had the nerve of including him again as one of the film's writers, instead of stating that just the plot is due to him, unhappily deceased in 1977; and, last but not the least, they have produced the worst sin in filmmaking: boredom.

Beautiful Opera Prima

Cásate conmigo, Maribel (Marry me, Maribel) is based on the famous play by Miguel Mihura, "Maribel y la extraña familia" (Maribel and the strange family). It is obviously not Mihura's play itself, and it's different from the Film adaptation that Jose María Forque directed in 1960. This version by Angel Blasco is more tender and romantic, but I think it's beautiful. Peformances by Natalia Dicenta and Carlos Hipolito are brilliant, and I found the whole piece quite elegant, sensitive and compelling. People at my side in the theatre laughed and wept and had a wonderful time, as myself.
