The city in "Beyond" takes place in the area in Tokyo where the production company Studio 4°C is located.
Koji Morimoto pitched the idea for Yoko as someone who was happy playing in the Matrix without pursuing the hard truth about the Real World to the Wachoski Bros., in which they agreed under the condition that Yoko remained happy.
In order to capture Yoko's reactions to the anomalies/glitches in the haunted house, Morimoto photographed a reference model in the studio in order to see how a girl would react to different situations in real life.
The song playing at the street crosswalk in the beginning and end is a Japanese folk tune titled "Toryanse" which is utilized to help the blind and other sight-impaired people cross the street. Koji Morimoto selected the song as part of the song lyrics is a metaphor that, according to Morimoto, states "he who can pass this spot is someone special...a chosen one."
