Curious, obscure doco
fertilecelluloid31 December 2003
Action maestro Savage directed and shot this curious doco about the shooting of Jackie Chan's MR NICE GUY in Sydney, Australia.

Rumour has it that the Malaysian VCD is the cut version of an original warts-and-all version of the doco that producer Golden Harvest would not permit to be released. Mine runs a scant twenty-five minutes.

Some sequences indicate that Savage had unlimited access to Chan and his stuntmen during the shooting of the movie.

The style is enthusiastic coverage of the shooting of stunts, rigging of harnesses and preparation of pyros. The camera is right in there with the action most of the time (to the point of danger) and Jackie himself is interviewed.

There is a lot of footage of the blowing up of the bad guy's (Richard Norton) house at the film's climax and several actors comment on Jackie Chan..

I'd be keen to see the longer version as even this version rocks.
