the best show ever made
rmagik26 November 2006
its unfortunate this was not released on DVD...im stuck hunting down VHS tapes and cable reruns.

this show was by far one of the funniest shows ever....im not sure why it didn't have a lot more poularity than it did.

EVERY EPISODE IS STUNNING.

Gerhard's quests will never be matched, his great grand father will never be found, and Dr. Nelson Beard will "never know." This show is 1,000 times better than modern SNL episodes, it contends with south park and family guy in my opinion.

10!

Why doesn't Comedy Central show this more often?
afternoonjazz8 April 2004
I was lucky enough to catch an all episode marathon (read: 5) of this show a couple months ago on quite late at night. At first, I didn't know what to make of it but after seeing the Andes/Bolivia episode I knew that this had risen to my top ten TV show list. The show is in the "mockumentary" style of Christopher Guest's movies (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) and Rob Reiner's Spinal Tap. The humor isn't always spot on, but the humorous repetition of certain gags is reminiscent of The Simpsons.

I was quite surprised to see that the show was produced by the same people that produced Crank Yankers and The Man Show. Another commentator mentioned that there are obvious correlations in the humor, but aside from a couple genital jokes it's pretty clean and not as course as that of the other Comedy Central shows. If you're lucky enough to catch an episode, and appreciate dry, off-color wit, I'm sure you'll enjoy the show! I taped a couple of shows when I had the chance because it's not the easiest show to explain: you just have to see it. And those I've shown it to have been quite pleased!

Gag per second genius.

I stumbled onto this show. It was the one where Gerhardt gets hooked on coca and is kidnapped by militant rebels. I was fascinated, asking myself what the heck I was watching. I soon saw more and was floored.

I was none to surprised to then learn that Tom Stern was behind this show. That explained why it was so funny...well at least to a degree. He's Alex Winter's (ya know...Bill from Bill&Ted) college buddy. They had a great show called The Idiot Box back in the day on MTV and made a major motion picture called Freaked (also great) that got totally screwed over by their studio and was never really released properly.

The world needs more of his kind of humor. Too bad about 10 years ago good comedy (kind of like music) just went BYE-BYE! I'm thinking Get a Life and late 80's SNL. Lots of intelligent surreal humor back in the late 80's/early 90's. I blame Seinfeld (which I love, of course.) After him every sitcom had to be about four people sitting around their apartment. Thank goodness for Conan I guess.

This show is for smart people who like wacked out comedy. God bless you.

Hilarious!

One of the funniest things I've seen in years, but definitely not for those with conventional, mainstream tastes.

The "California" episode is one of the best.

His German accent falls apart from time to time, but the "look" is perfect German Geek, and the recurring speedo scenes evoke the height of Euro beach sensibility. Yes, they still love speedo's on the other side of the water.

This show should be inspirational for anyone who wants to do comedy on a shoestring budget. Proof positive that you don't need high production values to get laughs if you're creative enough.

It's a Very Funny Show

Gerhard (Josh Gardner) plays a German man traveling the world and getting into interesting and funny situations. He seems to be on a tight budget so he is seen wandering (hence the name of the show). His German accent constantly makes me laugh and the censoring of his speedo is hilarious. This show may not be some people's "bag" but give it a chance, you'll like it.

Insanity, Hilarity, Travel, and Germans, all rolled into one.
ironchef90008 April 2003
This show is insane. He travels the world, goes to countries and experiences their culture as a whacked out german, does insane things, and puts himself into funny situations that aren't like sitcom situations, but situations just so odd and out of the ordinary that is blows you away.

He isn't actually german, it is an accent, but the show is awesome, you must watch it so that comedy central doesn't cancel it.

Seeing pepe lucho go crazy, seeing gerhard and "nugz", seeing gerhard suffer from nervousness of peeing in front of people, and hearing his fantastic songs (including his use of that weird german synthesizer at an irish pub).

Watch it once, you'll be addicted. AWESOME.

If you are reading this, "Gerhard", please respond post haste.

This Show Rocks!
cheesemmm30 April 2005
My husband and I caught this show late at night on Comedy Central and have been hooked ever since! I've even programmed it into my Tivo so that I can watch it every time it comes on. For some reason CC doesn't like to air this show at a reasonable hour, so I'm forced to record it. I know that doesn't help for the ratings of the show, but there's no other way for me to be able to watch it. My husband always talks about how he wants to go on trips with Gerhard. We both think that it would be very cool to hang out with the camera man while the show is being taped, just to see how it's all done behind the scenes.

I love the humor of the writers and how Gerhard interacts with all of the people he meets! I highly recommend this show to anyone that loves true comedy! Good job guys! Maybe it'll come back some day, like Family Guy...

Disturbing !!!

This show gets to you on many levels ... and every one of them is gut-busting funny !!! It outclasses Insomniac with just a few episodes under its belt !!

For those of you who are tired of the way-past-its-prime SNL , spend your 11:30-12 a whole lot more usefully with Wanderlust ... this sicko is sure to have you laughing in splits !!!

Jimmy Kimmel humor
Nick-33713 May 2003
I wasn't surprised when I saw that Jimmy Kimmel is behind this show and crank yankers. Kimmel's brand of gross-out, bathroom humor is taking over the entertainment world, or so it seems. There is an odd fascination with male genitalia running through the show. Some examples are Gerhard's constant thong wearing, things spilling out of his speedos, pee shyness, masturbation terms, etc...certainly a long way from the man show's juggies. It can be stomach-churning at times, but also very hilarious.

Mildly Interesting Show
Filburt22228 December 2004
"Gerhard Reinke's Wanderlust" was a short-lived show on Comedy Central (yes, I know that's a redundancy) about some German guy who mixed his v's and w's and often resorted to gimmicks and vulgar humor, like the...well, everything, actually. Reinke travels the world, most often to dangerous impoverished areas and he struggles to find things funny to do. Sometimes he succeeds, but usually he fails, and ends up just making fun of foreign people for the remaining ten minutes of the show. Hovewer, the show is watchable, with a rare burst of laughter, and the main character is interesting, especially when in extreme pain, and indeed, this is a common theme.

VERDICT: ** of *****

WHERE CAN I FIND THE California EPISODE!
erniebeckmusic14 April 2007
I love that show but I have only seen it once.

I was stoned and eating a ham sandwich @ 3 oclock in the morning when this show came on. I had never seen it but it looked funny because....well....German accents are f***ing hilarious.

But then shazam! My older brother Orion a.k.a "Nugz" who went traveled out to California the year prior pops up on the screen. When I talked to him he cracked up because they didn't know they call him "nugz"!

He said Gerhard was cool, wasn't German, and made it MANDATORY that they all puff puff the happy grass with him in order to air the episode.......nice.

Needless to say I nearly choked like mama cass on that sandwich, my brother was on TV! So if anyone has any idea where I can find that Episode LET ME KNOW PLEASE!
