I consider this to be a pretty clever short, which starts in a somewhat serious way, leading to a completely unexpected gag. Personally, I liked a lot the stylish design of the Death character, which ominous apparition sharply contrast with the joke that takes place in this short. I consider "How to Cope with Death" to be a funny and well animated short that deserves way more appreciation and recognition. Probably some viewers will consider it an exercise of style over substance, but personally I was pretty satisfied with the overall result.

The name suggests there is something serious film. It turned out to be a comedy.

The scene where the creature appears is scary, actually pretty scary. The moment we think the women is gone, she starts fighting. She beats the hell out of the Reaper (or vulture, or whatever it was).

It's well made. And that's the best I can say about a 5 minute short.

An old lady sits in her chair in front of a TV, gently sleeping. She is undisturbed from her sleep by the angel of death's arrival in her front room. Death takes a good look at the woman and decides she is clearly ripe for the picking. However no one gets to her age without being able to cheat death in one way or another...

I had seen the visuals for this short before I actually watched the film. Mainly I had see a picture for Death and it looked suitably gloomy and forbearing. I expected the short to be something darker and worthy of Death and was disappointed when this turned into a comedy. The comedy contains a few reasonable visuals that are amusing - namely a Matrix-style sight gag, but really it's pretty obvious stuff.

The animation style doesn't fit the comedy. The old lady is too old to be amusing for my taste and Death is too dark to be treated this way. Also the drab backgrounds take away some of the comedy potential. It's still amusing but I felt that they hadn't got the mood quite right.

Overall I felt let down by the film. The set up and good use of Death gave away to an average comedy scene that wasn't worth the length of the film. Surely they could have done more around the one comedy sketch than just a one-joke set-up? Even at 3 or 4 minutes this is barely worth a watch.
