The feedbacks to the movie ‘Heroine’ are pouring in and it is dismal so far. The film is poorly rated by the critics and the movie buffs alike. It is a Madhur Bhandarkar film all right. The script includes a woman on top of her world, a cheating lover, conspirating friends, morale session classes, anti depressant drugs, fall from grace, tobacco and alcohol addiction. Sounds familiar? Well sadly it does. Madhur’s earlier films Chandi bar, Satta, Corporate, Page 3 and Fashion all spoke about women under similar conditions with the professional back ground being different. It was refreshing when the idea was introduced and entertaining ...

He admits women-centric films are his forte but Madhur Bhandarkar doesn't want to stick to one genre. After a comedy, the filmmaker now wants to direct an intense love story. 'I am a great admirer of Raj Khosla and Vijay Anand. Can you believe the same director who made 'Guide' also made 'Jewel Thief'. I'd like to be known for all genres,' said Bhandarkar. 'I want to make an intense love story like 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'. I also want to make a thriller like 'Teesri Manzil'. But, yes, hard-hitting women-centric cinema is my forte,' added Bhandarkar, who has ventured into comedy with 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji'. His impressive oeuvre of women-centric films include critically acclaimed movies like 'Chandni Bar', 'Page 3' and 'Satta'. Excerpts from an interview: Q: You've hopped genres with 'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji'?...

While confirmation of this bizarre casting is yet to come, one is not surprised at all at this unusual casting for a Madhur Bhandarkar film as the director is rather unpredictable with his casting.
Chandani Bar, Satta, Page 3, Traffic Signal, Corporate and Fashion are probably the highlight of his filmography yet one does not spot a single casting formula as they do with other directors. Sure the director has a flare for making female dominated films but apart from that small fact, Madhur Bhadarkar remains rather unpredictable.
One must commend the director for taking the task of casting so seriously. It seems in Hindi cinema we frequently find that directors tend to choose their favorite actors and later construct a story around them rather than righting a story and casting suitable actors in the respective roles. This would explain the absence of what in the west is known as...
