Part of the movie was filmed in Paris. One scene was shot in Le Consulat, Montmartre, 18th arrondissement, one of the world's most famous film locations.
Zlatko Topcic was trapped in Grbavica (quarter of the city of Sarajevo) in 1993 during the Bosnian War. Fifty years earlier (1943) his father Zaim (1920-1990) was trapped in the Jasenovac concentration camp during World War II, as a communist. About these events, he wrote the screenplay for Remake.
In the film, Mustafic and Topcic mix past and present, fiction and reality in a manner very similar to that used by Pedro Almodóvar later in his film Bad Education (2004).
Musician Adi Lukovac and singer Emina Zecaj collaborated on the first post-war Bosnian soundtrack. It is one of the most popular movie soundtracks of Bosnian cinema.
Topcic's script caught the attention of world producers after winning the international screenwriting competition. The film was produced by MACT Productions (Paris).
