In the original series, Prince Adams' pet green tiger, Cringer, could talk. The producers of this remake decided keeping that would make the series seem for too young for the audience they were intended to appeal to. Furthermore, they were confident they could make him expressive enough through his face and movements to compensate.
Unlike his previous cartoon incarnations, Skeletor has fangs. Skeletor's fang was written as a nod to the Frank Langella incarnation in the 1987 film "Masters of the Universe". Langella's Skeletor also had fangs.
Many plot points from the original He-Man series have been continued here, including the fact that Man-at-Arms is Teela's adoptive father and that her unknown birth mother is none other than the Sorceress.

Prince Adam's narrative during the opening titles is a variation on the opening monologue from the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983). In both cases, it's meant to explain the Adam/He-Man relationship, but here Adam is interrupted. The unfinished portion from the original is: "Fabulous secrets were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, 'By the power of Grayskull!'"
