The Capri, Hollywood International Film Festival will be dedicated to screen legend Elizabeth Taylor this year. The City of Anacapri will host a retrospective dedicated to the star, who won three Academy Awards and four Golden Globes over her career. There will also be an exhibition dedicated to her life work and activism. Taylor was a founder of amfAR, leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marlon Brando taking a road trip together sounds kind of like it should be a sleeping-pill commercial, but the possibly real occurrence is the subject of a TV movie for Britain's Sky Arts. While Stockard Channing will play Taylor and Brian Cox will play Brando, it was the choice of Joseph Fiennes as king of pop Michael Jackson that has raised eyebrows. “It’s a tongue-in-cheek, fun, light look at three wonderful characters that we know — Michael Jackson, Liz Taylor, and Marlon Brando — and they go on a road trip together,” Fiennes told Et Canada. “Some say it’s an urban legend, and our story basically says, ‘If it happened, maybe it happened like this.’ They’re stuck in a car for 500 miles as they drive to Pennsylvania, and we get to hear some of the shtick that goes on.” Hmmm ... a fun, light look,...

With the current boycott of the Oscars due to its lack of racial diversity in nominees, it's just a dumb idea to cast white actor Joseph Fiennes to play black musician Michael Jackson; even if it's for comedy. While Jackson has been played by white actors Fred Armisen and Amy Poehler on SNL in the past, due to a combination of vitiligo and cosmetic surgeries and skin procedures to make Jackson look more like Peter Pan, even after those procedures he was still black and was been played black actors Tim Meadows, Chris Rock, and Dean Edwards on SNL; so it's entirely possible and appropriate to still have a black actor play Jackson.
What makes this project even weirder is that it's about a reported road trip taken by Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Marlon Brando shortly after 9/11 from New York to Ohio; the visual of all three of them in one car is bizarre.

Admit it, when you watched "Shakespeare in Love," you thought "That Will Shakespeare actor should play Michael Jackson some day." Congrats, 'cause that day is here!
Believe it or not, British actor Joseph Fiennes will play Michael Jackson -- opposite Stockard Channing as Elizabeth Taylor and Brian Cox as Marlon Brando -- in a road trip comedy called "Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon," following the celebrity trio's rumored cross-country trip after the 9/11 attacks in New York City.
Joseph Fiennes recently described (and defended) the project to WENN:
"I got the script the other day. It's a challenge. It's a comedy. It doesn't poke mean fun but it's a story, possibly urban legend, whereby Michael, Marlon Brando, and Liz Taylor were all together the day before 9/11 doing a concert. Airspace was shut down and they couldn't get out and Michael had the bright idea to go to hire a car and drive. So...

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's semi-regular rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Joseph Fiennes is playing Michael Jackson in a movie. I repeat: Joseph Fiennes is playing Michael Jackson in a movie. Joseph Fiennes, in case you'd forgotten, is the white British actor who rose to fame playing William Shakespeare in the Oscar-winning film Shakespeare in Love opposite Gwyneth Paltrow. Michael Jackson, meanwhile, is the black American entertainer who became the most famous pop-music performer of his time before a round of plastic surgeries rendered him unrecognizable and allegations of child molestation derailed his career. The new film, which is being produced for British TV, will be an imagining of an alleged (and subsequently refuted) road trip Jackson took with his friends Elizabeth Taylor (to be played by Stockard Channing in the...

Talking to Et for World AIDS Day on Tuesday, actress and model Kathy Ireland revealed that her mentor — the late star Dame Elizabeth Taylor — had a unique hand in mounting a fight against the disease. Aside from founding the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, the activist also participated in the formation of an underground, experimental drug ring (think Dallas Buyers Club, but on the West Coast) and maintained a safe house for patients on her Bel-Air property, according to Ireland. Not many other details were shared, but "a lot of the work that she did was illegal ... she was saving lives," Ireland said, recalling Taylor's fearlessness, dedication, and compassion tied to the cause in the '80s and '90s. "She said her business associates pleaded with her to leave this thing alone. She received death threats, friends hung up on her when she asked for help." You can watch the...

Graham Norton has no plans to retire, Gal Gadot appears as Diana Prince, Spider-Man’s jiggle test
Oh, dear heavens. Victor Voronov has gone to the police again because Johnny Weir allegedly attacked him. Voronov has scratches and bruises. The two announced the end of their divorce proceedings two weeks ago. This spat was because of mean text messages Weir found about himself on Voronov’s phone, which Voronov says were from during the last breakup.
Was the Comcast-Time Warner merger not enough for you? At&T has reached a deal to buy DirectTV for around $50 billion, giving them about 25 million video subscribers, enough to challenge the new Comcast, assuming the feds allow the deals to go through. Tracy-Ann Oberman on why Rock Hudson's death – and the headlines it prompted – inspired her to write a Radio 4 play
I'd always wanted to write about beefcake heartthrob Rock Hudson caught between his virginal on-screen "wife" Doris Day and his accepting, sensual "mistress" Liz Taylor. So it was what I immediately thought of when Radio 4 approached me to write a second play with a Hollywood flavour. But whenever I mentioned Rock to anyone the response has was always: "Rock Hudson. The one who died of Aids?"
I vividly remember that moment in 1985 when Hudson's Aids "scandal" hit the headlines. But what I didn't realize is how closely Doris herself was tied up with this event. Rock had agreed to appear on Day's anodyne, pet-care show Doris Day's Best Friends for the Christian Broadcast Network – run by alleged rightwing homophobe Pat Robertson. You couldn't make it up.

HollywoodNews.com: Lindsay Lohan recently filmed a movie about Elizabeth Taylor, and it seems she thinks she was the perfect person for it. Lindsay has been speaking about the film and recently commented that she relates to Liz in a number of ways, states RadarOnline. "I personally understand Liz, because you’re living your life for everyone to see, and people are growing with you," Lindsay commented. And it seems she thinks they both reacted the same way to fame: "You get to a point where you become numb to it, and you just live your life the way you feel you need to live it." Before pressing play on the trailer for Lifetime's much-anticipated Elizabeth Taylor biopic, we'd encourage you to do some pop cultural soul searching. What exactly are you expecting, when you watch this 30-second promotional video? Are you expecting to see Liz Taylor reincarnated before you, all curves and diamonds? Are you imagining that you will watch Lindsay Lohan find her talent and restore her career, right there on the screen? Or are you just here to watch Lindsay Lohan slap on a beehive wig and scream the word "wench" in a bad Patrician accent before throwing a bottle against a wall? If it's option three, well, then do we have a Liz & Dick trailer for you. The hats! The stilted line-readings (there are only three, but still)! The lackluster "Who's counting" joke at the end! There is something so glorious about this mess. Enjoy.

Lindsay Lohan turns 26 today, and here at PopWatch headquarters we would like to sincerely wish Lohan a happy (and sober) birthday.
As in the past, Lohan’s 25th year has had its ups and downs, but she seems to be on an upswing. She hosted a highly rated episode of Saturday Night Live and finally got off probation in March. She also started filming a Lifetime movie, Liz & Dick, playing Elizabeth Taylor, and generated positive press in some early photos from the film. She also shot a guest-starring role on Glee in the spring, sending up her image as a troubled starlet.

Lindsay Lohan was taken aback by the harsh criticism levelled at her by Rosie O'Donnell over her casting as Elizabeth Taylor in a new TV movie - because the comedienne doesn't know her "at all".
The Mean Girls star was confirmed to portray the late movie legend in the Lifetime network project Liz & Dick on Monday, but not everyone welcomed the news.
Outspoken O'Donnell questioned the casting and suggested Lohan would be better served away from the spotlight after 18 months of legal issues and jail and rehab stints.
The former chat show host said, "I feel very sorry for her. I think she needs a lot of time away... I think she's not in a place to work."
And she's convinced Lohan isn't the right person to play Hollywood icon Taylor: "The last thing she did good (was when) she was 16. I don't think she's right for the role and I don't think she's capable at this point to portray that character."
Lohan's father Michael hit back at the O'Donnell on Tuesday, insisting she is in no place to judge his daughter's casting, and now the actress has responded to the criticism.
The 25 year old tells Eonline.com, "It's funny that someone you don't know at all can say something so intrusive and so knowing. You know, I did one of my first interviews with (O'Donnell) when I was little. I was so excited."
And Lohan is refusing to answer back or take the criticism to heart as she focuses on preparing for the role: "I don't think I need to tell her anything. I know that I'm great. I know that I know Liz Taylor very well, and I share the same make-up artist and the same hair stylist. We've worked with a lot of the same people.
"(I feel) lucky to be able to do this role (and want) to honour (Taylor) the way that she should be honoured because she helped a lot of people in her life."...

Lindsay Lohan knows that she's right for the role of Elizabeth Taylor in the new biopic "Liz & Dick," regardless of what Rosie O'Donnell may think.
O'Donnell joined the "Today" show panelists Tuesday (April 24), saying Lohan isn't "capable" of the role and that "she needs a lot of help."
When fellow "Today" panel member Donny Deutsch suggested that Lohan is "our generation's Elizabeth Taylor," O'Donnell responded with, "You're out of your mind! You're a crackhead! The last thing she did good she was 16."
Lohan's publicist tells E! News, "I think Rosie should focus on her own career and stop worrying about everyone else's."
And Lohan herself reacted to the tirade Tuesday night at a Star magazine event, saying, "It's funny that someone you don't know at all can say something so intrusive and so knowing. You know, I did one of my first interviews with [Rosie] when I was little. I was so excited.
O'Donnell joined the "Today" show panelists Tuesday (April 24), saying Lohan isn't "capable" of the role and that "she needs a lot of help."

From the time that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released as the first feature-length animated movie in 1937, it took the Academy 54 years to recognize the medium with a Best Picture nomination. That honor went to 1991’s Beauty and the Beast, which set the stage for Disney’s decade-long string of traditionally animated hits and proved that “cartoons” deserved to be taken as seriously as their live-action counterparts. Don Hahn was Beauty’s sole credited producer at the Oscars, and though the film ultimately lost to The Silence of the Lambs, he insists that the nomination itself was reason enough to celebrate.

If you thought the prospect of Lindsay Lohan playing Elizabeth Taylor was ridiculous, wait until you hear who else is being considered: "Transformers" star Megan Fox. According to E!, Larry Thompson, a producer for the upcoming Liz Taylor Lifetime biopic, revealed that -- along with Lohan -- Fox is on the shortlist to play the icon. "I've been talking to Lindsay Lohan directly, and with her reps, and have been in conversations with other actresses, including Megan Fox." The mention of Fox will likely do nothing to dissuade the Taylor fans who were up in arms over the possibility of Lohan being cast. But, Thompson added that, "It's a very serious selection ... It's like casting for Hollywood royalty." A "serious" selection? Are we talking "Jonah Hex" serious or "I Know Who Killed Me" serious? Liz Taylor fans will find out soon enough. [via E!]...

Is Lindsay Lohan headed back to TV? The 25-year-old actress may have been bumped from a racy Linda Lovelace biopic, but now she's in talks to play another (less infamous) iconic screen presence on the small screen.
The actress is in early talks to play the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime biopic "Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story." A source familiar with the negotiations told TheWrap that Lohan is in early conversations about the project.
Lohan actually got her start on the small screen in 1996, starring as a purple-gelatin loving young-in opposite Bill Cosby in a Jello commercial. With a taste of TV on her resume, Lohan got her big break in 1998's "The Parent Trap." Then, she returned to television to star opposite Tyra Banks in the 2000 Disney Channel original movie, "Life-Size," followed by another Disney made-for-tv film, "Get a Clue," in 2002. So, the Forbes' "Top-Earning Dead Celebrities List" is finally out (I know, thank God, right?), and it appears that Michael Jackson has, through post-mortem grit and determination, won the top spot on the list, earning approximately $170 million in royalties in the past year. This is the second time he's been on the top of the list in the past three years, placing him among the ranks of fellow deceased notables Marilyn Monroe (#3, at $27 million), Elvis Presley (#2, at $55 million), and John Lennon (who's #5 and tied at $12 million with Elizabeth Taylor, which is probably the first time that Liz Taylor has shared anything with John Lennon other than a person who wanted to kill them). Jackson's #1 spot can be attributed to the increase in album sales and Mj-related memorabilia in the past year, which has steadily climbed since his 2009 death from a drug overdose. The publicity [...]...
