Whether you're a woman filmmaker or person struggling with any career, In & Out of Focus provides an entertaining, relevant and intimate view of what it's like for a woman trying to balance her love life, family, and career. This is terrifically smart entertainment. Jacqueline Liebman is refreshing to watch -- funny, gorgeous and honest. She asks questions aloud that most people only think -- like, Can a mommy be sexy? The women filmmakers she interviews are likewise smart and frank about trying to be all things to all people. Praise should go to Liebman's husband, too, for his sometimes painfully revealing participation. This documentary is well conceived, well directed and well edited. Truly excellent!

Well rounded exploration of a woman's journey as a filmmaker.

I saw this film at the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee in 2002. The filmmaker was in attendance as well as some of the women featured in the film. It provided a fascinating look at the choices a woman must make during her pursuit of a career in filmmaking and building and maintaining a family. While there was a primary focus on the filmmaker's personal journey, she also included the impact on her husband, his career and his views of their journey together.
