Very unexpected
MovieAddict201617 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
A lowly woman gets on a French subway and is traveling in silence when a man suddenly appears and announces that he is in search of a woman as he hasn't been in love for over two years and is tired of feeling empty.

People laugh and scoff at the man but he ignores them, and asks any woman who is interested to get off at the next bus stop. Well, the bus stops, the woman gleefully gets off, turns around - only to realize the man on the bus was doing it solely for entertainment, to gain money from travelers.

The film ends with her standing on the platform, alone.

I was taken aback by the suddenness of the ending. It's pretty powerful, especially considering it's only four minutes long. But the director manages to convey a lot of things just through facial expressions, particularly the woman's.

Pretty brutal little film, but a very good one.

Importance of facial expression
b-6633421 February 2019
In this film, two people are the main characters. The story takes place in a train with the man's speech and the woman's reaction. The man looks suspicious at first, and other people laugh at his speech. In contrast, the woman takes it seriously. At this point, her facial expression shows her change of mind. In this film, she does not speak. Instead of that, her face is often focused on expressing how she thinks about the man's words. The angle of each character is interesting. While the man is speaking, the camera shoot not only the man but also other people as it shows that the man is speaking to everyone in the train. On the other hand, the woman is on screen only with her eyes straight at the man to show how serious she listens to him.

Good role model of short film
Fjkkn14 May 2021
I will wait for the next one is a short film and the leading character is a woman who has no dialogue. When she arrives at the station and goes down on the escalator, her gaze is drawn to a couple. She looks sad and bored by her day-to-day life. On the train, a man suddenly introduces himself and speaks out that he is looking for a lady who can share true love with him and then asks passengers to get off at the next station if interested. She gets curious.... While I think this film is flawless in its technical aspects, after I watched it, I felt really frustrated about the narrative. Contrary to the man, the woman doesn't say anything and only has facial expressions, but I can image her romantic background for some reason such as marital status in the past. I am curious about what happens next for the woman and the man and the situation on the train. I think this film is worth watching.

This is absolutely brilliant.
Anonymous_Maxine7 March 2005
I'll Wait for the Next One sets itself up as a cute little comedy skit, and it delivers on that premise but also surprises you with an incredibly moving finale. Four minute comedies are not supposed to be as moving as this film is, it's funny, charming, and heartbreaking all at the same time, showing you your emotions in a combination that they are not generally found. I can't recommend this movie enough. By the end of the diminutive film you feel like you have known the characters for years, especially the lead man and the woman looking for love, probably because they so perfectly represent.

The look on the man's face and the woman's face at the end of the film are brief moments of sheer performing brilliance rarely seen, especially in a short film, which itself is rarely seen. Seek this one out, you will laugh and you will cry, and most of all you will be moved.

THIS is how a short movie should be!

Oh, this broke my heart! The filmmaker showed such skill as he told the story of the woman on the train with no words whatsoever. The actress was great. She just really brought to life her loneliness, from her buck teeth to her terrible scarf. She was just trying so hard. This was super-great. Except it was a bit devastating in the end...

Excellent way to use short time
craftholic19992 March 2019
The whole scenes of this film is take place at the train. One man gathers the attention by other passengers because he give a speech with loud voice to search the female who can share his romantic ideas. Most of people are laghed by his romantic idea but one lonely woman is moved by his word. This is very good way to make the short film I think. In other words, the director of this film is good to use time. I can not believe that this short film takes only about 4 minutes. It was really impressed story to me. In addition, there are some words that I can not understand in the film but from the act of characters, I can understand the story easily. Many people would enjoy this short film. If you have a spare time, you should watch this short film and do not miss the last scene of the film.

An emotional ride
Jirorian4 June 2018
Quite literally an emotional ride, "I'll Wait for the Next One" offers the promise of a fateful encounter only to be challenged abruptly by a surprise ending. The surprise works because our feelings are channeled through the eyes of the woman, whom in becoming the dupe of the male perpetrator forces viewers along to share in her struggle. The film thus raises many questions regarding the nature of the conflict it depicts: why is it not surprising that the man is the perpetrator and the woman is the dupe? Why are we drawn to believe the man's story, and what does his final action reveal about the nature of men as societal beings? Is the ending a fault of the woman or of the man? If the woman is at fault, do women need to just be more careful in an overtly oppressive society? Or if the man is at fault, does he need to be more considerate of the extent to which his actions inflict damage upon society? The depiction is that both the woman and the man are at the extreme ends of their respective depths of capacity for emotional sentiment, and it is a very crude depiction that does little to progress away from the repression inherent to patriarchal societies. However, the responsibility to answer the questions posed by the film lies in the viewer, and as a result so too does the responsibility to make any changes in the real world away from what we see on screen.

Warning: Spoilers
A middle-aged woman is walking alone and feeling lonely. When she gets on a train, she meets a man who is seeking a girlfriend. I like the first part of this film, the woman walking alone and looking at a couple. It empathizes loneliness of the woman perfectly even though she does not say anything. Also, I'm impressed that this film clearly shows the woman is a protagonist of the movie although she did not have a dialogue while a man has a dialogue almost the entire film. But I guess most of us can sympathize with the woman's feeling over the man because we can see how she feels more than him by her reaction. I think the entire film is well done including the story, camera work, and casting. The audience will be surprised by the ending. I wonder whether it was the woman's fault or man's one. She might be responsible for herself sticking in the idea of love or becoming desperate for a boyfriend. She should have been more careful not to be grabbed a chance immediately. The man also might be responsible for what he has been done. He did not try to deceive her into believing what he says, but this is a good lesson that you should not do things so confusing when it comes to relationship things. Which they sympathize with is up to the audience, which makes the story interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film.

Sad ending

Warning: Spoilers
In this short movie, there is a lady, who is not in romantic relationships for a while and looking for the one for her. The story is happening on a train in France. After she passes by the couple in the station, she gets on the train. Her face is not bright and seems hopeless. A man gets on the train at the last minute, and he starts talking about "love." He is looking for a woman to date, and talking about his life, his salary, what he values and so on. Another man on the train makes fun of the man, but he did not stop. The woman's face gets brighter as she listens to his story. The man says that "if you would like to date me, please get off at the next station." The woman gets off the train with a happy feeling, but the man tells her that it is a performance, maybe to get money. This movie gives a shocking ending, and I liked it. I can see how the woman's emotion changes even though she does not say any words. The plot is straightforward but unpredictable, so it is interesting.

Interesting film
pinefgsgsu24 December 2021
"I'll Wait For The Next One" is a French short comedy drama film. It was made in 2002. A woman walks to the station with a lonely expression. When she gets on the train, a man also gets on it to introduce himself and says that he is looking for love to passengers in a loud voice. The woman has a puzzled look at first, but she comes to be interested in what he says and sympathize with his view of love. It is a story with a surprise ending. The title implies that the women waits for her destiny and I think she is so bored in her daily life so that she wants to believe the one and fate. However, I suppose the man makes fun of the women who are looking for partners seriously and I don't think it is a funny joke. I sympathized with her in the film. Furthermore, I have empathic embarrassment to watch this film. I believe people who care what other people think much would feel this embarrassment. I think the film is worth watching because it gives the audience the lesson that there some things are too good to be true.

Finding true love...NOT
Horst_In_Translation11 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I want to say that this is a pretty nice title for a short film like this. It is a little play on words that can refer either to trains or to people. And it is certainly an achievement to get a 4-minute movie nominated for an Oscar as basically every moment has to be a winner in order to stay in the minds of the voters. Writer and director Philippe Orreindy managed to do so, even if he lost the Oscar to a much longer entry from Denmark. Looks like a European year at the Oscars back then, at least in this category. Make sure you grab subtitles for this one here if you do not speak French. However, there was one thing that bothered me a bit and that is the ending. It was all funny before that, but seeing the woman there was really depressing in my opinion. I wish they could have come up with something heartwarming or funny at least instead. This is also why I am only giving 6 and not 8 stars for this one. Still, certainly worth a watch and the acting is good from everybody in here. Recommended and it's so sad to see that Orreindy did not manage to build a career at all on the success of this short movie.

Surprising story
Kotakuu1129 May 2024
'I'll wait for the next one' (J'attendrai le suivant) is a French short dark comedy film that is just four and a half minutes long. The story starts with a single woman looking enviously at a couple. As she takes the underground, a man suddenly starts to speak in front of the passengers and asks single women to get off the train if they are interested in marrying him. Despite the woman's lack of dialogue throughout the film, her emotions and thoughts are effectively conveyed through her facial expressions and gaze. This absence of spoken words adds depth to the story, allowing the audience to empathize with her situation. Setting the film in the metro is also great as it emphasises her lonely aura. Although this is a short film, it has a punchline and is very satisfying.

Warning: Spoilers
***This review may contain spoilers*** The short film I'll wait for next one is a story about a middle-aged woman. It starts from a scene that the woman walks in a street lonelily. When she goes down escalator, she stares at a couple who are cuddling each other on the next lane. After this scene, I understood that she is single. After she gets on a subway, a man appears and starts to speak to everyone on the subway. Everyone listens to his talk with curiosity. He says he is looking for a lady to get married to him. He introduces himself seriously, but everyone laughs. His talk gets the woman's attention and makes her smile. And then, she believes him and get off the train. In the end, she despairs since she is embarrassed by his joke. The facial expression of the actress is amazing since it shows the woman's sadness perfectly. I think the woman she usually feels too much loneliness since she tries to date with a strange man. Overall, this short film describes a lonely woman very well.

Fateful moment in the train...?!
maoenjoyhappy23 July 2017
A lonely woman who greatly longs for true love meets a stranger at the metro in Paris. He asks single women in the metro who has the same way of thinking of love for getting off at the next station. Then…what becomes of her love, getting off or not?

Even though the film is about 4 minutes long, this leaves us emotion sympathized with her. Interestingly, the single lady is a main character, not the man who tries to attract the single women in the train. However, she mentions none of the words, which means her feelings are expressed visually. In particular, at the beginning of the film, she bears watching a couple on the escalator. This shows us that she seeks for love. The technique is highly respected.

The ending of this film is beyond expectation and makes audience feel to follow the story more.

Second-hand embarrassment served
Gospel9722 June 2018
A lonely woman goes on about her life until one day, the ride on her usual train takes an unexpected turn, changing her life in the mere span of a few minutes.

It's a well-crafted short, from start to finish. The actress does a magnificient job showing the sad, lonely side of the character, which makes the audience take a liking on her earlier in the short. There's humour in it too, and the cadence of the dialogue makes the audience follow the slow but steady flow of the plot.

The simplicity and familiarity of the setting (coming home from work, getting on the train to share your personal space with strangers for as long as the ride lasts) adds to showing how easily events in the short could happen in real life. How humans can be cruel without meaning to, and how they can also be very naive when hope is an option.

The naiveness of the woman, her hope to finally stop feeling lonely, is what gives this short that special touch.

Sad, but a good movie
yasumaru-3294812 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I like "I'll wait for the next one" as a movie. However, it makes me sad because I feel so sorry for the woman who is the main character of this movie. In this film, a woman who does not have a partner meets one man on the subway. He starts to talk about how he is a good person and wants a partner to love with a loud voice. The woman feels he is a funny and kind person and starts to like him. In the end, he says if anyone thinks he is good, please get off at the next station with him. She leaves the train when the train arrives at the next station, but the man does not get off. It is just his joke. She will wait for the next one (train and partner) just as the title suggests. I don't like this story because the man is too cruel. However, I think the act of the woman was very nice because I could feel her feelings from her expression without the dialogue.

The Face Tells So Much
Hitchcoc15 May 2019
A lonely woman boards a subway. Before it begins to move, a man gets on board and begins to pontificate about his quest for a woman. He says he is alone and the passengers begin to respond to his little presentation. The woman has a pretty face that shows so much emotion She is lonely too. What are our expectations? I don't know the actress, but she does more with her expressions that some would do in a full length movie (this is but four minutes). What a marvelous little film; it's like a sad poem.

"I'll Wait for the Next One" is a French short film about a woman who searches for true love. She meets a stranger in the subway in Paris. On the train, the man suddenly introduces himself and says that he is looking for a lady who can share true love with him. He asks passengers to get off at the next station if they are interested in him. The main character looks lonely and hankers after love. I feel sympathy for her and it is sad to imagine her feeling at the end of the movie because it has a grievous punch line. The narrative is well-paced and well formed. The main character does not speak at all in the film, but the facial expressions and background music tell us the characters' emotions, so it is easy to understand the movie. I think this is a great short, but I do not recommend this film to people who lead a lonely life because you may become sad.

As real as life is
khnerostar22 May 2018
This short film is really good. It is about a woman who is in the train and a man who takes it and starts talking out loud asking for a woman to love him. Then, the woman starts to get interested in what the man is saying and she takes the chance to find her love. Even though this film is really short, the story is really well told and you can experiment a lot of feelings that the characters transmit really well, especially the woman, who I think that is the best character.

First of all, I will talk about the character of the woman. As I said before, I think that she is the best character of the film. As you see her story in the train, you can feel a lot of sensations. Everything she is thinking of and feeling, you can feel or think too, joy, awkwardness, loneliness, sadness.... For me, this is how a good character is built, she has to make the audience feel things and I really think that she did that very well.

Having such a good story condensed in a very short film is a very good aspect. There are a lot of characters whose stories seem to be really clear. You can imagine more or less who they are and how their lives are just by their actions or what they say. Also I think that the end of the film is pretty realistic in contrast to what happened inside of the train, where everyone lives in their own world imagining their new lives.

unexpected ending
b-961283 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film is just four and half minutes long, but makes the biggest impression on audience, and it makes audience think so many kinds of things after watching it. There is a woman who is seemed like very tired of daily life, and she is getting on the train as usual. But there is one very unusual thing happened that one strange guy starts introducing himself and says that he is looking for a lady who can share the true love. If you are agreeable with the suggestion, he want that lady to get off the train at the next station. Finally, she gets off the train, but the man does not get off and says to the woman that "I was only a sketch...." It is just a show and she was used as a part of the show. After watching this movie, audience might think that "Do rest of the passengers also know it's a show because everybody is laughing while he is acting?" or "Do they give the money after the train departs?" Since audience is also deceived at same time, this type of show gives very big impression and shocks after watching and it remains for a while.

A woman arrives at the station and goes down on the escalator, where she sees a couple. She looks sad and bored by her daily life. On the train, a man suddenly introduces himself and speaks out that he is looking for a woman who can share true love with him and then asks passengers to get off at the next station if interested. The woman looks interested in the man. I watched the film in which the main character doesn't speak for the first time. We can understand and imagine the feeling of the women by other character's dialogue and her facial expressions. I think the women has a tough memory, so she wants to be loved. When I watched the opening scene, the woman looks so lonesome. Everyone has their share of hardship, and everyone wants to be loved and love someone. I think this film tells us that.

Warning: Spoilers
'I'll wait for the next one' is a French romance movie released in 2002. Storyline is that a single woman rides on the subway and one man on the train is looking for a date. And after that, another man replies to him. Then, she enjoys the atmosphere on the subway.

In this movie, the main character, a single woman, does not say anything, while other characters do, but her facial expression is more important because her emotion changes one after another. Therefore, Her facial expression is one of the important things to understand in this movie.

In addition, the atmosphere is also important to understand. This movie starts from the scene where she walks alone on the street. In this scene, the atmosphere is dark. Therefore, we can easily understand what she feels.

For these reasons, this movie uses lots of effects, so it is worth watching in terms of the way to make an effective movie.

Tear-jerking and authentic ...
Neradea3316 May 2018
The short movie takes place in an underground train in France. A man enters the crowded train and starts talking loudly to catch the attention of the people. Claiming that he's not doing anything for money, he starts explaining how he is looking for love and starts explaining his own conception of love. During all this time, the majority of the people in the train is listening to the man and especially a woman, who seems to be around 40 years old and who seems to be really hooked by the man's words about love. An interesting aspect of the movie is the emphasis on visual story telling. Indeed, nothing is said or written about the woman's background, but the way she stares at the man implies maybe some kind of loneliness in her life or some kind of admiration. The emphasis put on the woman's gaze is a powerful tool used by the screenwriter to make the viewer think about her background. In addition, putting personal issues and questions through a simple and daily life scene is a proof of a good screenwriting and enables the viewers to share feelings more easily with the characters. The whole movie and especially the end will really make you think about human relationships in a general perspective and that is why I would recommend you to watch it !

Skillfully constructed film
b-1361631 January 2019
The story starts with the heavy and slow step of woman who is seemingly returning home by metro. She seems to be bored, indifferent, or even unhappy and we assume that she is not satisfied with her life at this point. The moment there appears a strange man starting a speech to call for someone who will be dating with him in front of various passengers on metro, we easily assume that there will be a romance between these two at the end of the story. I do not say the guy seems to be a man of destiny for her at this point, because his appearance is kind of so-so, what he is talking is just like a man who has been single for a long time... In other words, he is not attractive type of person for many of audiences. However, the more selling points he speaks in succession, the larger smile the woman makes on her face. Now we can say that he is the one for her! But we should be aware of the time limit as well. He is a passerby, and therefore she should be hurry if she wants to take this chance. You should watch the end of her story with your own eyes.

An interesting short film
Enustik12 June 2018
J'attendrai Le Suivant, a short movie directed by Philippe Orreindy, tells the story of a man who enters a subway car and, asking for everyone's attention, claims to be in search of true love. One of the women in the car seems to be interested in what he is saying, but then a plot twist results in an unexpected ending. Regarding the editing, it is interesting how the camera follows the woman before she enters the subway car. The sequence of shots of her face and feet give the feeling that she is walking towards something. When she is going downstairs, she stares at a couple kissing, so we can infer that she was thinking about love, relationship matters, which are the main topic of the man's speech. Moreover, when the man is speaking, close ups of the woman's smiling face keep appearing. Thus, it gives the impression that the man and the woman are somehow connected, which makes the unexpected ending even more shocking. Finally, the dialog between the man and another man who suggests that he would give him his wife's phone number, since she is only after money, and the man's answer - that he is looking for real love, and not a match, makes his speech sounds more sincere. In only 4 minutes, this film manages to catch the viewers' attention, make them create expectations, and then break the expectations through a plot twist.
