Weak script, could have been a good thriller
jwong24 March 2004
Warning: Spoilers
the story is not that bad, most of the actors do their best trying to save the movie. Unfortunately the writer lost a lot of facts that are crucial to the story.

***Warning kind of spoilers ahead****

If somebody bugs you on the phone, you stop answering the damn thing, not just keeping on nicely answering it again and again. In todays world there is caller ID and also you can report this kind of problem to the phone company. If somebody breaks in your department, and you are really afraid of it, you report the incident to the police immediately. In the movie, the cops are never mentioned or just though of. In the subway, if the driver sees somebody -even a little shadow- he/she will report it to traffic dispatcher immediately and stop the next train. In case of an accident, it will stop the train as fast as possible. And the thing with the video camera, avoid the window, close the curtains, do something.

To finish, it could have been a good movie.

An attempt to make a good thriller
MAP-319 July 2003
Just a matter of movies genres. You can say that this is a "popcorn thriller". At least in Argentina, the movie was taking to the theatres with a huge advertising campaign based on Pablo Echarri, almost the only argentinian in the whole movie. Of course, that makes a box office success, and some spectators disappointed as they didn't know anything about the plot. To be objective, it's a good movie. It won't make history, but there is a increasing suspense, there's a murder and no one can figure out who is. If you love "Halloween", or "I know what you did last summer", maybe this is the movie for you. But don't expect a special appearance of Freddie Krueger or Jason. Just regular people, a mystery, some deaths and a huge package of popcorn to enjoy "No debes estar aqui".

Title says it all.
Luther Blissett24 June 2002
The same title explains it: "No debes estar aqui"-"You must not be here". Obviously, the director is trying to advice us, because the film is so bad that when I went out from the theatre I thought: "I shouldn't have come". The film is supposed to be an Internet-basis thriller, but it does not have suspense, horror or anything interesting.

Why did I rent it??
adgvelazquez22 April 2003
OK, just saw the movie (rented it, thank god I didn't spend more than 2'50 Euros on this thing) and hey, can't remember the last time I saw something sooooo bad... Oh, and if someone got what the hell is going on, I'll be glad to know it... my sister and I are still discussing our views on what we have just seen... Double crossings? people gone bananas? no one cares for the dead guys? And, is both main characters the same character?

Mamma mia...

Chatting on line with strange people
jotix10017 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
One of the most troubling aspects of going into a chat room is the fact that the anonymity of that medium lends itself for all kinds of opportunists that will do anything in order to get what they want. Such is the case with Gonzalo, an intense young man who is living with his girlfriend, Marta, in a huge apartment complex. Gonzalo is intrigued by a chat room in which someone is daring people on line to meet for an adventure.

Little does Gonzalo know what he is getting into! The motley group that meets by one big dam, that appears to be empty when they arrive, suddenly becomes a trap for the group as water floods the passage where Sergio, Sonia and Gonzalo are trapped. Marta, who is horrified about the experience and about the possibility of having lost Gonzalo, wants no more to do with the group, but Gonzalo's passion for participating in these adventures get the best of him.

Sonia has clearly seen in Gonzalo as an object of her affections. She is attracted to him, and lets him know right away. Marta, on the other hand, begins to receive phone calls in which the caller never answers. At the same time, it's clear to her she is losing Gonzalo, who gets more obsessed with the antics the chat room character has invented for them. When Sergio disappears, during one of those daring feats, the group takes a macabre turn for the worse.

Jacobo Rispa, the director of this film, seems to be a man that understands the subject. Unfortunately, the screen play, doesn't help him in making a better movie than what it could have been. There are elements in the film that will satisfy fans of this genre. The basic idea of the movie is something that could well happen, but the ultimate conclusion shows that the people behind this production ran out of ideas, or didn't know where to take the story for a better resolution.

Pablo Echarri is seen as Gonzalo. Tristan Ulloa, of "Sex and Lucia" fame, plays Sergio. Pilar Punzano appears as Marta. The intense Marian Aguilera has some good moments as Sonia.

Are Bored Grad Students Innately Evil?
susanjmaki35718 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this movie. It had enough mystery to keep me interested.Although, I did guess the killer and Sonia's secret because of the sheer amount of mysteries I watch. Still, some nice twists, and an atypical ending.

When Gonzalo gets sucked deeper and deeper into his online fantasies, I couldn't help but want to warn Marta, his girlfriend to leave him. People are dropping like flies and he won't give up the thrills he gets from breaking into places suggested by the psycho in the chat room. She should have moved back in with her parents when the crank calls start, and sever all connections. This is not mentally healthy behavior.

Gonzalo's fling with Sonia was not convincing. Sonia lacked any qualities that made her sympathetic. You end up thinking less of Gonzalo for his involvement with her. She's slutty without being sexy, a hard feat to manage. She has no other attraction than being forbidden fruit. In real life, most men would dump her about ten minutes after sleeping with her. The only thing missing s the price tag.

I found this movie while looking for Tristan Ulloa movies. I've enjoyed everything I've seen him in so far. Admittedly, there's more I haven't, than have seen. I wish he'd do more English speaking movies. Subtitles are a pain. I fall asleep if I'm watching later in the evening. It was a surprise to see him as someone so psycho.

The lead was good, but for me, Ulloa had the emotional power in the flick. Maybe I'm getting a movie crush, but he really does have a special magnetism. Attractive without being all twisted steel and sex appeal. He has the kind of persona that most women I know would hope for when they want to meet someone real. Not in this film, though.

This flick was frightening for me because the anonymity of the internet really can bring anyone close to a killer without knowing it. Someone you chat with, CAN be setting you up for something dangerous. People can have a different identity online than in face to face encounters. It was the plausibility and the voyeurism that made it creepy. Worth a watch.

This exciting , bizarre film contains tension , thriller, drama , mystery , plot twists and shocks
ma-cortes9 June 2015
Intelligent edition , modern scenarios and slick utilization of shock images make this one, a passable thriller plenty of killings . Techno-thriller-slasher with an original and ingeniously basic premise about a bunch of young amateurs participants (Tristán Ulloa , Pilar Punzano , Marian Aguilera , Andrés Gertrúdix , Juan Diaz) in chats begin a dangerous game full of suspense and intrigue , attracted by the suspicious personality of a surfer . It gives a terrifying and disturbingly youthful view of fears in which posses some elements of terror and risky suspense to figure out : Who's the killer ? . In one of these adventures , one of them dies . Soon they have reason to fear for their lives as it appears a serial killer committing a criminal spree , as the mysterious murderer is hunting them all down , then starts a nightmare of suspicion among them . The main starring (Pablo Echarri) seeks helplessly responses until he finds out the terrible true .

This picture displaying genuine chills , suspense , mystery and dark atmosphere and a twisted finale , being skillfully proceeded . This Argentina/Spain co-production results to be an acceptable film because of the thriller , tension , Kafkaesque suspense , as well as an interestingly written script concerning a complex intrigue in which our protagonists are in such extreme situation and their subsequent instinctive urges for survival . This computer-set thriller deals with a deadly game of cat-and-mouse in which video cameras capture everything , and the internet has turned into a cesspool of surveillance that's hundred times more horrifying than Leatherface's dugout . We immediately see that the story is going to be told from some unorthodox perspectives as each scene is broadcast through a window on a computer monitor . Despite its average budget the picture manages to be intelligent , intriguing and thrilling but also a little bit boring and hard to follow . The good thing about this film is that the director made it on a limited budget only having to do a few sets , yet the movie works on many levels but is constantly reconfigured . There is here in computers and laptops featuring a Webcam feed , even some action sequences and sexual scenes are showcased in this format . In spite of being technically a "Techno thriller", the film nods at everything from a technological world to Hitchcock to Giallo . The final result is an offbeat thriller that's captivating , in spite of not being all that fun or especially thoughtful , neither thought-provoking . It turned out to one of the most unusual Spanish thrilling movies of the 2.000s and certainly one of the most unsettling and even to beat to ¨Open Windows¨ . By that time , there have been realized several Spanish ¨Slashers¨ imitating to ¨Scream¨ saga , such as : ¨School killer¨ by Carlos Gil , ¨Tuno Negro¨ by Pedro L. Barbero , Vicente J. Martín , ¨Mas De Mil Camaras Velan Por Tu Seguridad¨ by David Alonso and ¨El Arte De Morir¨ by Alvaro Fernadez Armero at his the best .

"You Shouldn't Be Here" provides a spotless pictorial cinematography by Nestor Calvo who photographed successes as Atomica , Lobo , Nos Miran , Lobos De Washington , Años Barbaros , Miguel and William ; showing splendidly neighbourhood , parks , urbanization , library and Hospital ; Nestor photographs almost perfectly the elements of each shot , every sequence, every space . In addition , a thrilling as well as suspenseful musical score by Federico Jusid . The motion picture was original and innovately directed by Jacobo Rispa though enhancing the erotic scenes , almost Softcore , and including some flaws and gaps . Here Jacobo adapts to the times and find thriller/action/mystery in the ways people are living today . Filmmaker manages to not seem completely daft and he is attacking our vulnerability online by setting his Techno film entirely unsettling . This picture relatively cheap was tautly directed by Jacobo Rispa in his first movie , he subsequently would make TV movies .

Awesome actors!

Awesome and incredible actors! Great performing and good story. One of the greatest movies I've ever seen in my life from this genre!. The story is not good enough at the beginning but it turns really interesting at the middle-end of it.
