Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • A theme of the film is the forced disappearance of the Albertina's parents during the 1970s Argentinian dictatorship. (This is not shown, there is no film record.)
  • We see the actress playing Albertina give a cow a medical shot in the rump. The cow protests.
  • Several shots focus on the guns on policemen's gunbelts.
  • Some five-year-olds casually talk about neighbors and say that one of them killed himself because he couldn't stand his wife. Not dramatic, and likely just kids' imagination or repeating what they've heard.

Profanity

  • One use of "carajo," a strong swear word in some Spanish speaking countries. It is heard in the background and not even subtitled (at least in the English subtitles on Kanopy).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • We see Albertina light a cigarette and smoke on a park bench. Later we also see Albertina smoking in the back seat of a car.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In one scene Albertina repeatedly screams. It intensely expresses the difficult emotions of the subject matter.
  • Fast editing heightens intensity in many scenes, parallel with the investigation of the horrible past of the dictatorship (including the appearance of a saying the dictatorship used about first killing the subversives and then killing their sympathizers and finally the indifferent).

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • In a stop-action animated sequence, a UFO abducts two toy Playmobile people (like Albertina's parents), and we hear the woman scream. Mild but nonetheless an expression of trauma.
