It's hard to say no to Meredith Vieira. While putting together her new daytime show, NBCUniversal executives let the host pick her executive producer, sidekick, band — even the furniture on her set (a tatty, pet-ravaged couch from her Westchester, New York, home). Perhaps the "suits" — as Vieira calls them — are aware that she is one of the rare TV talents who is not afraid to walk away from it all.
After becoming, at age 35 in 1989, the youngest correspondent ever hired by 60 Minutes, she left the prestigious CBS newsmagazine two years later to have her second child when then-executive producer Don Hewitt refused her request to work part-time. Her very public decision sparked a national conversation on the challenges for women who balance motherhood and career. After an Emmy award-winning stint on the ABC newsmagazine Turning Point, she changed course, becoming a founding panelist on the daytime coffee klatch The View...

"I didn't ever intend to be a journalist," Meredith Vieira told a New York City audience during a sit-down interview for 92Y's Ruth Stanton Illustrious Women Series on January 25. The Emmy-award-winning journalist was relaxed on stage, answering questions from her old "Today" pal Dr. Gail Saltz, as well as the audience.
"I did have sex with George Clooney," Vieira joked, saying she knew this would be the audience's top question of the evening. "I only did it twice because I wanted to give him a second chance." This humor is part of what makes Vieira so well-liked by many -- something "Today" fans grew accustomed to in her banter with Matt Lauer.
In her humor, Vieira also revealed some of her insecurities. For someone who has accomplished so much in her life -- a 25-year marriage, three children and a career working for some of the biggest names in news and media,...

Codemasters has officially announced Bodycount, a First Person Shooter that promises to please any fan of the last generation hit, Black.
Few details have been announced but I should note that they are aiming to have both online multiplayer and co-operative modes in the game.
Stuart Black, Bodycount’s Creative Director, had this to say about his new title.
“We’re all massive Fps fans and believe that there’s room for a refresh of the shooter experience. Everything in Bodycount is absolutely centred on the bullet and its impact on the world. Our shredding tech enables us to create a different kind of gameplay, where players and AI can’t hide behind indestructible cover and rely on whack-a-mole mechanics.”
Sounds like he is taking a jab at Gears of War’s pop and shoot gameplay that has become very popular this generation.
It will be interesting to see what Codemasters comes up with.

Does Herman Yau take holidays? Does he take weekends? Does he even sleep? On the evidence for 2009, it seems not, as he managed to churn out no less than 4 films, “Split Second Murders”, “Turning Point”, “The First 7th Night”, and finally, “Rebellion”, which now arrives on DVD. Although as a cat III rated triad thriller the film sees him returning to familiar territory, as usual Yau offers something a little different, whilst still managing to deliver interesting characters, grounded genre action, and even a little social commentary. The film boasts an impressive cast, headlined by the equally hard working Shawn Yue (“Shamo”) and including top television actress Ada Choi, comedian Chapman To (who previously had a taste of triad drama in the “Infernal Affairs” trilogy), and pop idols Elanne Kong (Happy Funeral) and Ella Koon (Look for a Star). The film takes place over a single night on the crime ridden streets of Eastern Kowloon,...

Taking a two-month hiatus, "The Vampire Diaries" will keep its fans entertained with a week-long marathon. This week's episode will be the last airing this year before it returns in January 2010. In anticipation of that, The CW will run all the 10 episodes in season 1 to celebrate the holiday season.
The marathon will begin Monday, December 14 and end Friday, December 18. The 10 episodes, which have managed to deliver the show a status of being The CW's most-watched series among adults 18-34 this season, will be cramped within the week by airing two episodes each night starting at 8/7c. The show is slated to come back with originals on January 14.
This week's episode is titled "The Turning Point". After reading the journal left by one of the Gilbert ancestors, Jeremy is inspired to return to his hobby of sketching fantasy creatures, a talent he had abandoned when his parents died. Much to the surprise of their friends,...

So it was decided that “Laughing Gor” would get his very own movie, and hence “Turning Point”, a prequel of how he came to be a police officer under deep cover in the triads. The movie itself is somewhat history in the making- since when have you heard of a supporting character on a Tvb series so popular it gets its own movie, complete with heavyweights Anthony Wong, Francis Ng and Eric Tsang. Just as notable is how this movie managed to attract Shaw Brothers to produce its first movie after a 7-year dormancy.

Shaw Brothers, known for innovative martial arts movies during the '60s, is coming back at a time when the Hong Kong filmmaking industry needs them.
Under a joint venture with the partially Shaw-owned Television Broadcasts Limited, the studio has four films either scheduled to be released or in production through 2010. The slate is based on a three-pronged strategy to target local audiences, mobilize local film industry workers, and to showcase Shaw Studios, a Us$180 million facility in Hong Kong’s Clearwater Bay.
Virginia Lok, production resources division controller for Television Broadcasts Limited, said a number of local filmmakers are now working abroad, and as a result, productions have decreased.
"Although a lot of Hong Kong filmmakers are now working in China, a considerable number of crews remain in Hong Kong; there weren’t enough jobs," Lok said. "Our priority is to hire Hong Kong crew and Hong Kong actors in our films.

Some women would try to deny it, but truth be told Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, is the stereotypical woman's holy grail of films. The flowery speech, the witty conservation and the dreamy Colin Firth constitute the 5 hour and 23 minute filmed version of Jane Austen's romantic classic. Men, if you couldn't figure out how Colin Firth was so popular after starring in mediocre [read: crappy] chick flicks like Bridget Jones's Diary then you missed the boat. Firth has ridden the brooding manliness he established with Pride & Prejudice ever since. It's not your fault if you never understood the allure of Mr. Firth if you've never seen Pride & Prejudice. Well, actually the average woman would say it's your fault for not having seen the greatest story ever told on film - but they're somewhat biased on that account. For those of us less swayed by a timeless tale of romance,...

In anticipation to the nearing wide release of "Valkyrie", United Artists have got together a special interactive timeline for the drama thriller based on the true story of the daring and ingenious plot to assassinate Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler. The July 20th plot interactive timeline chronicles the momentous occurrences from the day Hitler was appointed as Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933.
Other than giving out the prominent dates and events throughout 1933 to 1944 that shaped the elaborate scheme, the July 20th plot interactive timeline also provides photos and detailed information behind a specific date listed. So far, the timeline has yet to reach the July 20, 1944, the day the planned assassination will be delivered. It is stopped at the "Turning Point" on June 7, 1944, but description on the particular date promises that the July 20th plot will be unfolded.
The story of "Valkyrie" itself has come up to screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie's attention...

Wrong Turn: Wow, just when you think they have some clue, Tna does it again. They were Finally laying down some good seeds in this Main Event Mafia vs. Young Guns feud and then what do they do at Turning Point? They book the endings all kinds of wrong. Like seriously wrong. Not that the results on paper were wrong, but the execution was so off that once again they help no one and nothing get over.

ABC's serial drama The Nine was pulled back in November 2006 after seven episodes and poor ratings. Though the network maintained that the series would return, it was looking less and less likely as time went on. Now eight months later, after the series has been cancelled, it appears ABC has kept their word.
The Nine will return to ABC on Wednesday, August 1st at 10pm. Episode number eight entitled "Turning Point" will kick off the run. The network won't be providing an extensive recap to refresh your memory of what came before and ABC recently removed the previously aired episodes from their website. They are however still available for purchase via...
