It was the 80s

OK, first and foremost you have to put this all into perspective. Back when this game was made, we didn't hold video games to such a high standard as we do these days. The graphics were pretty good for the day and comparing them to anything we see today is absolutely pointless. The NES was a pure 8-bit system, and the best of its kind then. We did not have anything remotely close to a 3D, free-roaming environment. The game-play was par for the course. Side-scrolling, run to target, shoot target, jump, jump, repeat. The story was very loosely based on the Predator movie, but back then, things like that didn't really matter as much. Games weren't designed with multiple endings so as to add replay value. Given the limits of the technology, the only way to ensure that you got your money's worth was to make lots and lots and lots of levels, which this game certainly has and then some.

The basic premise is that you run around the jungle as the Governator, dodging various jungle creatures and eventually fighting the Predator himself. The Predator didn't use all the cool gadgets that we have come to know and love in the movies released since then, the technology just wasn't able to accommodate a plasma blaster and a smart disc. The Predator shoots fireballs, you dodge said fireballs, you shoot back, just like pretty much any other game in the 1980s. I have read a few reviews here complaining about the game and it's fairly obvious that they are written by people (kids) who were either not alive for or otherwise do not remember what games used to be like. The games just got harder and faster, eventually you died a fairly bloodless death, save for maybe a red pixel or two. If we were to build a time machine and take Al Gore back to 1985 to invent the internet and IMDb.com earlier, I would review this as a great game with awesome graphics. In the proper context of the late 1980s, I would still say that. If you are looking for one of the best games of the era, this is a great game. Just don't pick up an old NES cartridge (that's right, cartridge, not disc, the PS One wasn't even a thought then) and hold it to the same standards that you would hold a modern game, there is no way to compare them. As for the previous post that set me off, there is no such thing as an "advent" fan, unless you are talking about Predator in some sort of religious sense. Try "ardent," maybe. If you're looking for some very old-school, basically mindless fun, pick up a copy of Predator, provided you can find a working system to play it on.

Not the worst movie video game ever.

This one had some good points to it, it is not a game I would want to have owned, but it was a nice rental seeing as how there were a lot of levels to this game. Basically, the story picks up after Arnold's character is all alone and facing off against the predator. Any resemblance to the actual movie ends there as this one seems to be using the engine for the game Contra for the most part. Not that it is even close in caliber to the fun that game had, but it made this one more enjoyable than another Arnold movie game "Total Recall" which I would say is not only one of the worst video games based on movies ever, but one of the worst games ever. This one you basically shoot through level after level of various critters and occasionally the predator. Then you have these levels where you fight the predator in a sort of first person mode. There are not many of these levels in the game and none of them are all that different from each other either. I thought I had the game one when I beat one of these levels, but no the ultimate showdown comes in the sidescroller screen where for some reason the predator is a big floating head that shoots stuff at you.

Pretty sorry excuse of a video game, especially for an awesome movie.

The old Nintendo version of Predator is summed up by the simple word "sucks." It's a classic example of the old idea that if we made a video game, no matter how lame, and make the characters look like the characters from the movie, it doesn't matter what the game is about, people will buy it and that's all we need. Other than the name, and the fact that the game gives a short summary of the movie (it takes place when Arnold is trying to get to the chopper all by himself), the game resembles nothing about the movie.

You start out with your fist, walk around in some lame side scrolling level dodging guys with grenades, little monsters that look like crabs that shoot "something" at you, spike balls that jump out of pits, and other assortments of strange monsters and creatures that have nothing to do with the film. Every once in a while you'll get a really useless weapon that's really easy to loose. Then...after maybe 5 levels of the same monotonous stuff, you get to fight (Yay!) the Predator. Except it just looks like the predator. You are in a stand off and he shoots a bunch of fireballs, and spinning blade things at you. Then when you kill him, his head flies around for a bit and tries to get you. After you beat him, it's the same thing over again. You go through a bunch of boring levels and then fight the predator again...then again....then again....for about 30 - 50 levels or so. (Wow! Lots of levels! Must mean great replay value!) Each level has the same music so it gets old really fast. But that's not all, after we're done with this amazing and almost impossible adventure, we get about a 10 second ending explaining that you got away. It's probably safe to say that they programmed the whole thing in about a day or two. Maaaaybe more, but not much.

I guess one of the plusses is the introduction, it does have some pretty cool graphics for the explosions. But that's it. Even for an advent Predator fan such as myself, it's a boring, non nystolgic waste of time.

Predator is one of the most exciting action video games! The characters, the action, and the sure thrill of excitement makes this game a fun non-stop playing time! Below is a brief look how I think the game is!

Game Play: The game play is very good. There is really basic controls here and is easy to perform. Novice gamers should have a good time here!

Graphics: The graphics are wonderful especially for the Nintendo System! The backgrounds are really beautiful!
