Quotes

  • Shane : Shall I tell you stories? Shall I tell you how it was told by the old ones to my grandfather's grandfather long ago? This is how it was told to me. Let me tell you, and you remember to pass it down, for this is how it happened long ago.

  • Grandpa : We're Sioux. Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Tehan, Red Headed Stranger : Hey, all right. My great-grandmother's grandmother, well, her aunt - she was one-third Kiowa.

Grandpa : Ah Kiowa - strong Nation.

Tehan, Red Headed Stranger : Yeah, hey, could I hitch a ride with you, brothers?

Shane : No. No room, man. We're towing a horse.

Tehan, Red Headed Stranger : That's cool, man. Hey maybe I'll catch you at the powwow.

    [walks away]

    Shane : Wannabe.

Grandpa : Maybe he's trying to be connected.

Shane : 'Cause they stole our land? Now they want our sweat lodge?

Grandpa : Their fathers stole our land. Long ago it was said, 'the white man would look on in disbelief as his sons and daughter began to adopt the Indian way. To learn what their fathers didn't understand.' Yeah... he's a wannabe. He wanna be connected.

  • Grandpa : It has been said that the young people of today are our warriors of tomorrow. I look at you and say, 'we're in big trouble.'

Shane : You know, sometimes you can be a mean old man.

  • Shane : There they go, a van full of Cheyenne hotties and we're stuck here with the horse that rode in with Lewis & Clark.

  • Shane : Hey, borrow some cash?

Janine : Oh, yeah, there's a million dollars in casino money underneath my dresser. Just leave me a few thousand.

  • Grandpa : Who the hell's chasing us?

Shane : Just some guys, grandpa.

Grandpa : They must be after Three Moons, my war horse.

Shane : No, they're after my ass!

Grandpa : Better off with my horse.

  • Grandpa : It's gonna rain.

Shane : What, the spirits tell you that?

Grandpa : No. The bullet I got in my hip in France tell's me that. It hurts like hell when it's gonna rain.

  • Sam : He pulled you on the powwow trail, didn't he? Him and his powwows. Jeez. Powwows ain't real, you know. Just Indians dancing for the white man for our bread and bolony.

    Shane : Maybe.

Sam : Then why are you doing it?

Shane : 'Cause he's my grandfather, and it means something to him.
