Inferior sequel to original that crossed-over from Spain to become a hilarious family entertainment , this time enhancing comical elements and weird characters . An enjoyable and fun story about a chubby kid along with his nutty family living in barrio High Carabanchel and set during Christmas break . Funny film plenty of good feeling , witty and comedy ; being narrated in great sense of ductility and fairness . This is a family tale narrated in sensitivity and intelligence , especially dealing with relationships between a little boy (Don Berenguer replacing David Sanchez) , his father Manolo (El Gran Wyoming replacing Robert Alvarez) , mother (Maria Barranco substituting Adriana Ozores) , grandfather Nicolas (Vicente Haro replacing Antonio Gamero) and friends . Funny and moving story about a lower-class family living in barrio Carabanchel , Madrid . This is a comic look at contemporary Madrid from the point of view of ten year old called Manolito , his family and his group of friends . On this special occasion, Manolito is in the middle of Chrismas celebration and ready to enjoy the holidays with his family . This year bears a great surprise : Uncle Nico (Oscar Ladoire) , his mother's brother who lives an works in Oslo as a waiter . Uncle Nico shows up in a big roulette to spend Christmas Eve with the family. He is accompanied by his flashy Norwegian fiancée, the unbelievable Trudi Bergenkoklass (MarcelaWalerstein) , who is something like part fairy , part Viking and part Pippi Long Stocking. This lady immediately catches Manolito's eye . As a host of characters, completely change the tedious life of Manolito Gafotas or Manolito Four Eyes .

Based on the best selling children's novels written by known novelist Elvira Lindo , including a well written script by the same director Joan Potau and Elvira Lindo delving into the children psyche . Elvira is a notorious Spanish writer and journalist , creator of the Spanish famous literature character Manolito Gafotas and she performed Manolito in a radio program for several years . It's an adorable , quiet film , dealing with childhood , being well acted and concerning the narration about the relationship between a child and his family . The film attempts to spread optimism about the events of life , with its amusing sides , including Christmas celebration , village party , cavalcade and many other things . Not trying to be unrealistic and make everything as in a domestic tale but giving way to mirth and comedy . Plenty of emotional and family feeling in which solidarity triumphs and humor despite the penury . In addition , the film gives us a nice panorama about a lower-class family , its goodness , sacrifice , work , neighborhood relation , companionship and various situations happen in its existence . Main and support cast are frankly well . Gentle , sympathetic Gran Wyoming as the daddy along with Maria Barranco as mummy , both of whom give likable performances , and the little boy played by Don Berenguer , all of them finally to be aware the meaning of the familiar relation and learn each other . Supporting cast is frankly good , such as Oscar Ladoire as the rare uncle , Vicente Haro as grandfather , Gracia Olayo as neighbor and cameo by Santiago Segura , Antonio De La Torre and Javier Gurruchaga . It is an endearing and intimate film , well directed and well acted , but perhaps fails a little the main protagonist , Manolito , whose optimism is as obvious that results to be exaggerated, furthermore contains an excessive voice in off .

This is an agreeable and funny picture for children and adults alike ; being professionally directed by Joan Potau . The flick was finely produced by the chairman of Filmax Productions , Julio Fernandez along with his brother Carlos Fernandez as executive producer , they're two successful producers and experts on terror genre , and emphasizing on the fantastic genre, producing a lot of hits , such as ¨The machinist¨, ¨Rec ¨1¨, 2¨ and ¨3¨ , ¨Fragiles¨, ¨Darkness¨, ¨El perfume¨ , ¨Backwoods¨ and many others ; through Fantastic Factory and animation with Filmax Animation , they have invaded to the global market on home video, television and also theatrically . They have produced successful children movies and cartoon films as ¨El Raton Perez I and II¨ or "The Hairy Tooth Fairy", ¨Gisaku¨ , ¨El Cid : the legend¨ and ¨Goomer¨, among others . The original film ¨Manolito Gafotas¨ has become one of the hits of 1999 with over 1 million admissions at the Spanish box office and the film has crossed-over from Spain to become a classic family amusement . This is a lesser sequel but still quite entertaining , it will appeal to kiddies and adolescents.
