I Expected Better
Ginger875 August 2004
When I first heard of a Recess Christmas Movie I was really excited because I am a HUGE Recess fan. After I watched it I was a little upset. There was basically no new footage in this movie. The movie contains a little part with Mrs. Finster, Principal Prickly, and Mrs. Grotkey getting stuck in a snowstorm. The rest of the movie is just clips from other Recess episodes. I expected better than this.

I was really hoping for a full new Recess movie - Not this. The only thing I really liked about this movie was the clip form "Weekend at Muriels", which is one of my favorite Recess episodes.

Overall I give this movie 5/10 stars.

Entertaining but you do question the point of it
TheLittleSongbird28 December 2012
I love the Recess show, it was one of my favourite shows as a young girl and at 20 I still have a soft spot for it. As far as the Recess movies go, Recess Christmas: Miracle on 3rd Street is better than Taking the Fifth Grade but for me the best of the Recess movies is School's Out. Recess Christmas is entertaining enough, but it is far from perfect. There is little story to speak of, most of it reads too much of a clips show, which is what I mean when I say that you are likely to question the point of the movie. The animation in the (rather brief) links with Principal Prickley, Miss Finster and Miss Groatkey is very basic and nowhere near as colourful or appealing, and I don't think these parts are anywhere near as well written as the episodes featured. However, the episodes featured in Recess Christmas are hugely entertaining, Weekend at Muriel's and the Christmas special Yes Mikey, Santa Does Shave are the best stories. The episodes are beautifully animated, complete with memorable music, witty writing and imaginative storytelling. All the characters are fun and true to character, and the voice acting is top notch(of the direct-to-video Recess movies it is here where TJ is the best-voiced). All in all, doesn't have much a point to it but I was still entertained by it. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Basically a "best of" of Recess
RaidersOfTheLostCommunist19 October 2022
This is just a compilation of previous Recess episodes. Sure there is a "story" going on here, but it is just an excuse to recap a bunch of previous Recess episodes and call it a full length "movie."

I would say skip this if you have seen the series already because you are just watching a handful of episodes edited together, with breaks in between involving the teachers stuck in a snowstorm.

Overall though, if you have not seen all the Recess episodes or if you want to put in something that plays in the background during a Christmas party, you can do a lot worst than this. This is just "okay," as a compilation.

5/10.

clips show

Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street is a clips show. Its 65 minutes consist of a small amount of new footage (Miss Grotke, Miss Finster, and Principal Prickly driving home from school in a blizzard) combined with excerpts from "Principal For a Day," "The Great Can Drive," "Weekend at Muriel's," and "Yes, Mikey, Santa, Does Shave." Prospective viewers should know this before renting or purchasing this film.

It was o.k.

This was the worst movie of the recess ones. I don't want to be to harsh but I have to say it was boring. The title is good but the storyline is crap. I give the storyline a low 7/10. The animation gets a high 7/10. All Christmas movies that I have seen are good like Eloise at Christmastime,Home Alone,Home Alone 2 and Mickeys Christmas movie everyone except Recess:miracle on third street school. I liked Principal Prickly and Mikey in this film because they had the best and main parts in this Recess film.In this film they showed different episodes of Recess and my favourite one is the great can drive in which the recess gang want to beat the Ashleys for collecting more cans for thanksgiving.

Could've expected better

Warning: Spoilers
Just like with at least one of the other reviews, I had expected this to be a Christmas movie with Disney's Recess just like the other two movies School's Out and the Fifth Grade one.

This movie mainly consists of Third Street School faculty consisting of Principal Prickly, Miss Finster and Miss Grotke leaving the school and driving down in some snowstorm before caught on a snowbank. The majority of the movie mainly brings former episodes in flashbacks like TJ as school principal, Spinelli spends weekend with Muriel and that Christmas special of Mikey believing in Santa. There are some episodes referenced yet not shown.

I'm not sure if it is possibly proven that TJ and his group had something to do with three school faculty skidding and crashing by the snowball if it was thrown, or if happened by accident and the group were innocent.

Just stick and have belief in one story, it isn't that hard
r96sk12 July 2020
Yet another forced animated sequel from Disney.

'Recess Christmas: Miracle On Third Street' is a compilation of four different stories, which as always leads to a disjointed film. While the stories themselves are somewhat entertaining, they add nothing to the preceding film.

The animation is a step down but still satisfactory, just like everything else including the cast. On that note, it is cool to hear two well known voices appear in James Earl Jones (Mister) and Michael McKean (Mr Bream) - not that they add much to the film, admittedly.

Again, if you love the television series then I am sure you'll enjoy this. However, with a few exceptions, these 'Frankenstein's monster' films are usually always a mess and this isn't much different unfortunately. Just stick and have belief in one story, it isn't that hard to do so.

My Son Said This Movie Was Awful
ddunn-21 January 2003
...actually, he said is was worse than awful. This bright eight year old said that he had never rented such a terrible movie. The worse thing about it was that he only laughed on time. You might want to pass on this one.

So much better than Recess: School's Out!
gene_wilder1724 November 2001
I just watched this Recess Christmas video a few hours, originally not sure of what was to be on the tape. I love the show and watch it regularly, but I hated "Recess: School's Out", which I think should be avoided by anyone except little children. If you like the TV show, I can't see any reason why you won't like this featue, as it IS the TV show. This tape is more or less a compilation edition, consisting of four cartoons from the show, and a few minutes in between the 'toons, just to tie the whole thing together.

Basically, if you've seen all the episodes thus far (like me), then you've already seen most of this film, but how's it gonna hurt to see a couple of the cartoons again?

I hate episode recap episodes.. ZZZZZ
ThunderKing64 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show seems to start right after the episode "Yes Mikey Santa does shave". The Big 3, Peter, Alordayne and Muriel depart from the school during a major snow fall. As they are driving they get snow'd up and then they retell stories (past episodes) throughout this episode. Alrodayne tries to convince both Muriel and Peter that they do actually like the children. They deny it. By the end, the TJ Dirtwhiler and his gang help The Big 3 get free from being snow'd. Then the episode ends.

Big waste of time. Recap episodes are a waste. I don't recommend this episode at all. For many they probably didn't know this episode existed because I didn't until just recently.

Not as bad as you might think.

When I found out that Recess one of my favorite T.V. shows was going to have a Christmas video, I thought: It's probably the T.V. Christmas special. But I was wrong. This was a good movie. It really isn't as good as the show, but I liked it though. Disney scores again (something that in the T.V. world with them never happens hardly.)!
