A new low in porn footage recycling
Ray Dennis Steckler took old loop footage and other retread material and fashioned crummy many feature films from it, using as the hook a Peeping Thomasina in the form of roller-skating porn actress Debbie Truelove peeping in folks' windows. His producer Hal Freeman went one step further with the atrocious SINFUL PLEASURES, recycling not just the porn loops but the voyeur footage as well.
So we have Debbie, in all-purpose linking footage stolen from perhaps DEBBIE DOES LAS VEGAS, and a lame narration having her supposedly visit various friends, so we can watch clips from earlier Freeman films. Some of the characters she gazes at have fictional character names, so the IMDb listing of their stage names as first names is bogus here. Similarly, only a handful of stars are credited, the rest of IMDb's eyeballed listings need to be marked uncredited.
Marc Wallice, misspelled Mark Wallace in the credits, appears as several different people at several different locations that Debbie purportedly visits. Unlike a classic Russian Silent film, where the editing technique of object, observer, object back and forth was originally perfected, Debbie's point-of-view shots here are sloppy or nonexistent, the pretense of her peeping suggested and abandoned out of carelessness. Similarly, Marc sometimes has his mustache sometimes not, just as difficult a sight to accept as his being in three places at once.
Compounding this structural chaos, the entire charade was done during the video era, so Debbie is shot on film (circa 1981), and the excerpts of sex she's supposed to be watching are presented alternatively on video or on film. The viewer is assumed to be brain-dead or worse, and judging by the high ratings submitted to IMDb, that assumption is unfortunately spot on.
Add this Cinderella non-film to Steckler's oeuvre -he earned an extra demerit for all the junk he committed to celluloid after an initially promising non-porn career.
