Fringe, Supernatural, Bob's Burgers... zombies pop up in all kinds of surprising places. Remember that time Ramsay Street was invaded?
Back in the 80s and 90s, the only groups regularly enjoying zombie movies were habitually stoned students, young lads looking to prove their mettle by lobbing VHS grenades of gore at each other's minds, and great sweating giants with mutton-chops corseted into two-sizes-too-small Iron Maiden T-shirts. Very few couples partook of the genre; liver-ripping and eye-gouging was rarely seen as the essential romantic complement to an evening entwined on the couch.
Aside from George A Romero’s satirical side-swipes at society, the majority of zombie movies were gloriously nasty, schlocky yuck-fests, with names like ‘Return Of The Great Zombie Intenstine Carnival III’, 'Zombies! Zombies, Oh, Christ Zombies, They're Eating My Eyes!' and ‘I Claw-hammered My Zombie Grandma’S Head Off’. Anyone with access to a video camera,...

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Growing Pains star Jeremy Miller recently opened up about his battle with alcoholism and the medical implant he says has helped keep him sober.
Jeremy Miller Talks About Alcoholism
Miller starred as Ben Seaver, the youngest son in the Seaver family, on Growing Pains from 1985 to 1992, and took some time away from acting after the show ended. Instead, Miller reveals he began binge drinking after the show ended. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Miller says he would start every day with a trip to the liquor store and drink until he passed out.
At his lowest moments, Miller admitted that he considered suicide, saying, “There were probably a few nights it was awful close. I’m glad I did not own a gun, because I hated myself so thoroughly, I would have done something very stupid.”

Blake Shelton narrowed his team down to the top 3 artists who will perform in the live rounds of The Voice: Audra McLaughlin, Sisaundra Lewis and Jake Worthington.
The Voice finally reached the Playoffs after weeks of Blind Auditions. As Carson Daly explained at the beginning of the episode, during the Playoffs each artist will get to choose their song to perform for their coaches in the hopes of making it to the live rounds, where their fates will no longer be decided by their coaches but by American voters.
Audra McLaughlin was first up, singing Martina McBride’s “A Broken Wing.” The judges loved her performance, and Adam Levine even admitted she could be one to beat, calling her “spectacular.”
Following Audra’s powerhouse performance was Ryan Whyte Maloney, taking on Shinedown’s “Second Chance.” Usher gives Ryan encouraging feedback, comparing him to Adam Levine. Shakira is a little less enthusiastic,...

The residents and tourists of Las Vegas will have to wait a little while longer for Australian songstress Olivia Newton-John. The singer has revealed in a statement that her sister Rona, pictured above, left, with Olivia in 2001, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
The statement reads:
I received the very sad news that my beautiful sister, Rona Newton-John, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. In light of this news, I have decided to postpone my forthcoming Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and our family. As a cancer 'thriver' myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin. I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.
Olivia was famously diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, undergoing a mastectomy and becoming an advocate for breast cancer research and self-examination.

Vulture reports that Kyle MacLachlan will be making a return appearance to How I Met Your Mother. Do they really want us to remember the Zoey storyline we've all worked hard to forget ever existed?
I don't know what to think of this. The NBC pilot The Gates has replaced Aasif Mandvi in favor of Greg Germann. Mandvi is a great talent, so that's discouraging, but I'd also welcome Germann in another comedy role.
2 Broke Girls may have wasted its Super Bowl spotlight on an ad that only emphasized that the jokes are still lazy and hacky, but they did have the wisdom of getting the faboo David Lachapelle to direct the ad.
Dallas is getting a little bionic with a recurring role going to Lee Majors, as EW reports. Majors will play an ex of Sue Ellen.

All was merry and bright at SiriusXM yesterday, when John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John stopped by for a town-hall event in the satellite radio giant’s human terrarium. The pair beamed, complimented each other, and discussed both their careers and their new Christmas album, all while snugly encased in a plastic-walled room within Sirius’s New York headquarters. They were clearly delighted to be in each others’ company — and in the company of Didi “Frenchy” Conn, who moderated the event (and even did the Hand Jive to entertain the audience before it began).

I've seen some wonderfully disastrous Christmas music videos before (Heidi Klum's "Wonderland," anyone?), but I think Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson just gifted us with the cheapest, weirdest yuletide video in history. Prepare yourself for "I Think You Might Like It," the new Christmas duet between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The song is a rootin'-tootin' number about coming home for Christmas (I think?), and the video has all the glamor of a public access commercial for a Montecito lamp store.
This is what happens when you fly Greased Lightning too close to the sun.
Ok, ten quick questions everyone is wondering:
1) Could the title "I Think You Might Like It" sound more half-assed? Answer: No.
2) Which is less believable: Olivia's romantic feelings for John, or in "Please Mr. Please" when she claims she grew up in Nashville?
3) Is John Travolta celebrating 20 years of dressing like a sixth-grader?...

And lo, there appeared before us an angelic music video sent from heaven. Estimated budget: five dollars. It may only be Dec. 5, but thanks to John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, we've already received the best gift we'll get this Christmas. The music video for their country (?) duet "I Think You Might Like It" has hit the web, and it's bursting with so much awesome-ness, I feel like I'm going to puke a rainbow. There's hugging, there's two-stepping, and there's the most ridiculous wink-nod to the final scene in Grease — you know, when Danny and Sandy took off in the flying car to nowhere — that you will ever see. The video is also bursting with memorable characters, including John's family, a pair of soldiers, and a potentially creepy security guard who loves to hug. It's one of the many blessings off their Christmas album, appropriately titled This Christmas. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John...

Back at the beginning of July in the daily Briefs, I started the Official snicks Top 100 Lost Hits of The 80's, spotlighting the 100 greatest minor hits of that decade. The songs you don't hear on any 80's nostalgia show. Songs that missed the top ten, or top twenty ... or top forty, and over the last five months I hope some of these forgotten gems may have rung a long dormant bell, or for younger readers, provided a pop music history lesson.
Here is the complete list, including my favorite lost song of the decade. Thank you for taking this 80's road trip with me ... but it's not over yet! I'll be featuring a new Lost Hit once a week in the Wednesday Briefs, so the history lesson will continue!

Former co-stars John Travolta, 58, and Olivia Newton-John, 64, have announced plans to release a joint Christmas album — and yes, it will reportedly feature a follow-up to the duo's iconic Grease hit "You're The One That I Want," curiously titled "I Think You Might Like It." (Here's hoping!) "My desire was to make This Christmas an intimate album, not something too ostentatious or showy," John says in a statement released to Australia's NineMSN. But John and Olivia aren't the only sirens appearing on the album. Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett and Kenny G. also reportedly lent their musicianship to the stocking stuffer.
