- Gabi (Nuria Prims), a writer of erotic novels, returns from Madrid to her native Barcelona. She has returned to collect a prize for best literary work by a young emerging author. A reporter at the press conference make some allegations about her winning the prize because of her relationship with one of the judges. Gabi storms out and goes to stay with one of her best friends.
Her various friends and lovers are angry with her because of their thinly veiled portrayals in Gabi's novels, and Gabi herself is bored with all of the "research" -- meaning sex, drugs, and booze -- that her novels require. Unsurprisingly, this creates some difficulty when the author finds herself pursued by Jalil (Zack Qureshi), an Indian florist with some strict Muslim beliefs.
His questions are innocent and direct at first. His shop is just across the road from where she stays. Jalil minds her moped and offers her flowers a a goodwill gesture. A relationship develops and Gabi finds a breath of fresh air in her new-found, alcohol, drug free relationship with Jalil. Gabi's mother (Teresa Gimpera) hopes Gabi will settle down with Fede (Xavier Grasset) who is now Gabi's editor and still pursuing her.
Jalil starts to suggest that Gabi grows her hair long, stops smoking & drinking. Gabi feels reluctant but offers a trade off. He also suggest she becomes Muslim. Gabi starts to investigate and discovers that she may well have a good basis for her next novel. She plays along with Jalil's ideas until he requests to be introduced to her family. Gabi is put a little off-balance by this and agrees to take Jalil to her Grandmother's place rather than her parents.
Gabi's sister (played by Olleya Morena) is a clean living vegetarian who is critical of her sisters lifestyle. So Gabi finds herself surrounded by people who want to change her. She takes relief in escaping from her world briefly and starts to pen the beginnings of her novel.
