On the Rack
Davian_X21 February 2018
There's not a ton to say about this Hawk Films production, which supposedly depicts a night during the heyday of LA's all-male Meat Rack club.

The opening credits, run over near-abstract close-ups of the nude male form, strike an interesting oblique chord, though the film after is strictly literal. After a brief tour of LA, we're introduced to the eponymous bar and spend the next 45 minutes witnessing the goings-on. A pair of plaid-clad clones starts by making it on the bar, while subsequent encounters take place in the backroom, on a pool table, and anywhere else there's space. In between, we watch the various guys enjoying themselves on the dance floor. The film is decently shot, though the interiors have a stagey quality that indicate while this may have been shot in a real bar, it probably still wasn't during operating hours.

That's really all there is to say - this is a plotless film of men having sex in a public space with some decent disco music. The cast is better than average, with most of the guys attractive and at least one real looker in every pair (or triple), though neither the performers nor the sex are done any favors by Alpha Blue Archives' poor quality transfer, derived from a washed out and dupey VHS. Running a scant 48 minutes, I'm not sure if the film is cut; Something Weird seems to have released their own edition as MEN OF THE MEAT RACK, but I've yet to track it down and see if there's any additional content - or, for that matter, if the film itself looks any better.
