- Swimming the English Channel is a quirky, nearly forgotten event that is also one of the most challenging athletic feats in the world. Oddly enough, it has been dominated by overweight, determined women for the past 125 years. With its bone-chilling waters, dangerously strong currents, and unpredictable weather, the Channel continues to defeat all but a handful of its challengers. Not only have more people summitted Mt. Everest, but more people have traveled into outer space than have successfully swum across this 21- mile stretch of water. The Channel tracks the lives of three women and two men over the course of seven years. It explores their personal and professional lives that are risked to become part of a select group of people who have conquered the infamous, English Channel.
