Keith Chegwin has died, it's been announced, aged just 60 years old.
Some very, very sad news to report. Keith Chegwin has died at the age of 60. He had been suffering from a lung illness from some time.
I grew up in an era when Chegwin was omnipresent on children’s television, courtesy of his lively work on the likes of The Multicoloured Swap Shop and Saturday Superstore. In truth, I was a bit of an avid Cheggers Plays Pop fan, a show that the man himself admitted came with an often quite 'lively' audience.
He came to television after his early days in acting, and would take to it quickly. Furthermore, he was a man brimming with ideas of his own, and keen to push formats and ideas.
For me personally, he was also the first person I ever interviewed for this site. I’ve never had...

It's been 18 years since Alan Partridge first mooted the notion of Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank - and as of last week, the project is a dream no longer.
Eubank's team-up with Hostelworld is, of course, a deliberate tip of the hat to Steve Coogan's comic creation - but too often the telly schedules are plagued with examples of #AccidentalPartridge.
Behold, 12 shows that sound like they sprang straight from Alan's fertile mind - this little lot are on a par with Inner City Sumo or Arm Wrestling with Chas 'n' Dave.
1. Flockstars
Celebrity shepherding - Lesley Joseph goes from Birds to sheep and Fazer from N-Dubz lends livestock some street cred.
No-one makes a pun on Amanda Lamb's name, though. Missed opportunity.
2. Gordon Behind Bars
"Cooking in prison" was a format that Alan Partridge actually pitched to Tony Hayers, but it took foul-mouthed foodie Gordon Ramsay to make it a reality.

Finally, something to brighten up our January! Celebrity Big Brother is back tonight, and we can't wait to see who's about to go into the house. Host Emma Willis has promised a stellar lineup, so we're expecting big things.
We're just getting our popcorn ready, but join us from 9pm when the show starts on Channel 5 for all the action from the glamorous Borehamwood bungalow...
23:05Right, that really is it from us - thanks for joining us!
22:58Ooh, a snippet of live footage. Perez is speaking to Katie, which is presumably straining her ability to be nice. Although they are talking about her (and her horrible fat-shaming show) so maybe not...
22:56But for now, that's your lot! Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side is coming up if you want even more house action, but we'll be saying bye on this blog for now. Thanks for joining us,...

Most Haunted

Without doubt, British TV has produced some of the finest shows in the history of television. However, after focusing solely on the best of the best for the last three years, I decided it was time to acknowledge some of the stinkers. The following TV turkeys are remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Most Haunted
People love ghost stories and pratically every pub, school and manor house in England is supposedly haunted by at least one unsettled soul. Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding attempted to shed light on the nations ghouls in the Sky Living documentary series Most Haunted. Despite the best efforts of Fielding and a crack team of paranormal investigators, the show did very little boost the claims of hauntees. Episodes typically involved groups of people skulking around darkened rooms until a creaking floorboard or a gust of wind sent them packing.

Director: Nicolas Winding Refn; Screenwriter: Nicolas Winding Refn; Starring: Ryan Gosling, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vithaya Pansringarm; Running time: 90 mins Certificate: 18
There's something undeniably beguiling about Ryan Gosling's face and the highly stylised, neon-bathed manner in which director Nicolas Winding Refn captures it. The standard forlorn expression may evoke shades of Joey Tribbiani's countenance during the whiffy throes of his 'smell the fart' acting forays, but within the framework of this brutal and compelling revenge thriller it packs the same visceral and emotive punch as in the pair's previous collaboration Drive.
The sublime Only God Forgives again positions Gosling as an immoral and taciturn anti-hero who appears disconnected from the world around him. He portrays Julian, a Bangkok based boxing promoter whose real line of work is peddling drugs.
When his paedophilic brother Billy is brutally slain by the father of a girl he murdered, with the consent of sword-bearing...

Les Dennis has claimed that he owes his career turnaround to his work on Extras and Life's Too Short with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
Dennis, Shaun Williamson and Keith Chegwin all star in the Easter special episode of Life's Too Short this weekend, and the trio said that they were all incredibly grateful for the generosity of the show's creators.
"They put me in nine Extras, a Christmas special and three Life's Too Shorts," said Williamson. "You keep thinking it will be the last time, you're really grateful and then they call you back."
Chegwin said: "It gives us lots of credibility. What I find amazing is that they trust us with their material. It's a heck of a responsibility. We are professionals, but these are two of the biggest writers in the world."
Dennis claimed that getting a call from Merchant and Gervais for Extras had acted as "a regeneration" for him.

Keith Chegwin recreates his embarrassing gameshow appearance on Naked Jungle, stripping off for the final hour-long special episode of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's Life's Too Short.
Chegwin, Les Dennis and Shaun Williamson are at the centre of the show's finale, working as a troupe under the management of Warwick Davis.
The trio perform musical numbers and recreate TV moments from their past, however, Chegwin takes things a bit further by getting naked for his segment of the show.
Joking about the scenes, the veteran TV star said: "Ricky and Stephen said that because Naked Jungle had been part of my career, 'Would I do something for it?'
"They said, 'Look you don't have to be naked, you will be pixelated' and they gave me some shorts. I did tell my mother that I would never get naked on television again and I haven't!"
Chegwin hosted the one-off...

Last night's live The Only Way Is Essex episode left viewers screaming in horror and ridiculing the cast on Twitter. The peculiar talent show format, dodgy sound, fluffed lines and dire 'acting' prompted many viewers to describe it as a "new low" in TV history. The ITV2 horror show joins a long list of ambitious TV projects that ended up a laughing stock. Biggest TV disasters - photo gallery:

When you first lay your eyes on the DVD case for Kill Keith (depicting TV’s Keith Chegwin in Uma Thurman’s Kill Bill garb and wielding a samurai sword) you really hope that what lies within will be gloriously inspired rather than unspeakably awful. Let’s face it, the idea of a slasher movie starring various TV-am Z-listers being killed off by an unknown “Breakfast Cereal Killer” is a fun idea, no matter how cringeworthy. Sadly, Kill Keith squanders any of its potential novelty value by being a confused and unfunny mess, which is somehow far worse on screen than it possibly ever sounded on paper.
Marc Pickering stars as Danny, a clumsy but well-intentioned runner on a breakfast TV show hosted by glamorous presenter Dawn (Susanna Fielding). Crudely named ‘The Crack of Dawn’ – a gag once used in The Office to highlight David Brent...

Keith Chegwin has claimed that he sang the first song written by Phil Collins. The Naked Jungle presenter, better known as 'Cheggers', told the Daily Star Sunday that they were children at stage school when the Genesis singer penned the tune. The 54-year-old revealed: "I was in a school play and I was singing the first song that Phil Collins ever wrote. Yeah, true story. "I went to the Barbara Speake Stage School and his mother ran the school. Phil was there too and he wrote a song and I sang it. "So (more)...
