Nache Mayuri review:

A dance movie based on a real life character who successfully overcame her handicap; Nache Mayuri is an inspiring account of Sudha Chandran (named Mayuri here) which touched the audience's heart as it was the first and probably last instance where a film's main lead was the person on whom her biopic was based.

Mayuri (Sudha) is a born dancer whose highly conservative family abhors the art due to a certain past incident. Nevertheless, she pursues it, attains considerable fame until an unfortunate accident claims her leg.

Unwilling to quit, Mayuri goes for a "Jaipur leg" (artificial limb) and toils hard to practice dance with that seemingly impossible impediment. Her ultimate triumph conquering all odds is what lends this movie its touch of inspiration and likeability. "Never give up" and "Nothing is impossible", Nache Mayuri is a superb real life example of these phrases.

Sudha Chandran, reprising her life story, was truly outstanding. She did many South as well as Hindi movies after this including Pati Parmeshwar (1990), Thanedaar (1990), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Anjaam (1994) and Milan (1995).

Coming to Nache Mayuri, it released at Mumbai's Naaz Cinema in matinee shows but the public demand was so high by fourth week that the film was promoted to regular three shows there. A clean hit across India; Nache Mayuri is still watch-worthy for its inspiring theme. Go see it if you haven't. Cheers Sudha Chandran!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
