Second entry in ¨Torrente series¨ starred by the most grotesque and dirty detective well played by Santiago Segura
ma-cortes8 April 2015
Featuring politically incorrect private detective Torrente (Santiago Segura) , he is a lazy, rude , despicable drunkard , caring only about protecting and serving himself . Despite that, he still manages to get the job done . Torrente follows the exploits of Jose Luis Torrente, a Bad Santa of the police force . This time he is moved to Marbella, where , after being wiped out of the money he had gained , has returned to private investigation . As usual , being helped by Cuco (Gabino Diego) , both of whom attempt to detain the local Mafia . Meanwhile , Torrente falls in love for a beautiful singer (Ines Sastre) but is utterly rejected . In one of his cases he discovers the illegalities and irregularities of a powerful magnate (Jose Luis Moreno) and gets involved in the middle of a nasty's missile plot to destroy the city and his own uncle's blackmail operation .

This is 2º installment in Torrente series . These films are made to entertain , and this movie , especially for a good time and a nice entertainment . "Torrente 2" is a passable and unapologetic dark comedy with great special effects , it has several funny and hilarious scenes and quite successful action scenes with persecution , car chases and many other things . The picture contains thrills , nosy action , tongue-in-cheek , profanities , grotesque situations and above all , humor . Torrente 2 is written, directed, produced and stars Segura, whose production house Amiguetes Entertainment produced the film , UIP holds Spanish distribution rights . The screenplay is absurd as well as crazy , just what makes laugh a lot , that the character "Torrente" very slutty , clumsy , sexist , extreme-right-wing , on a real person is despicable , being not adequate , but this is a film that satirizes all this and that just means it's a pathetic character , though he also has his charms . Torrente 2 grossed more than €22 million in 2001 and the first Torrente, which set box office records in its day, took $707,000 . The film contains many cameos of famous people, familiar faces such as Tony Leblanc , Juanito Navarro , Joe Luis Lopez Vazquez , Paloma Cela , Santi Millan , Jose Mota , Pablo Carbonel ,among others . This film will not disappoint Santiago Segura fans.

The first outing was ¨Torrente El Brazo Tonto De La Ley¨ in which he fights against the oriental mafia in Madrid , being starred by Javier Cámara , Neus Asensi , Chus Lampreave , Tony Leblanc , Antonio De La Torre ; ¨Torrente 3 El Protector¨ in which the horrendous Spanish detective becomes a bodyguard , being performed by José Mota , Javier Gutiérrez , Carlos Latre , Yvonne Sciò , Eduardo García , Fabio Testi ; ¨Torrente 4 Lethal crisis¨ with Carlos Areces , Kiko Rivera , Javier Gutiérrez , Fernando Esteso and ¨Torrente V: Misión Eurovegas¨ with Alec Baldwin , Anna Simon ,Neus Asensi , Pablo Motos , Chus Lampreave ,Andrés Pajares . The movies were written by, directed by and starred popular Spanish comedian-director Santiago Segura and is getting the remake treatment from New Line Cinema ; all of them were produced by Andres Vicente Gomez, who exec produced the Academy Award-winning Belle Epoque

I liked it better than the first
lgfrades7 October 2006
Torrente is a crude, ladies man type man of the law. I think this version was even more fun because he's in the playground of Spain, Marbella. I think if you liked the first one, you will enjoy this version even more. I've even seen the third version, and this is my favorite. If you get the Spanish sense of humor, you will enjoy this film. I would say it's definitely for machos, and the wives and the girlfriends have to ignore lots of scenes in the Torrente series. But just keep a good sense of humor about it all. It's for guys who like sexy women (quite a bit of nudity in all of the Torrente films) and very Spanish domestic sense of humor. If you've ever lived in Spain or have a Spanish husband like I do, you will understand what I mean. For example, he loves "El Fary", Real Madrid, etc. The language is very graphic as well, and it is better if you understand Castellano. It is quite hilarious if certain things don't bother you.

Terrific and even better than the first Torrente
MRBICKLE1 April 2001
Santiago Segura has made it again. He has an unique sense of rhythm, a natural gift for comedy (as an actor, director and writer) and an unusual capacity of extracting acting abilities to non-professional actors. Of course the heart of this movie is this unforgettable character, Torrente played wonderfully by Segura but there are unexpected surprises in the cast: while Gabino Diego is excellent as usual it's shocking to view Jose Luis Moreno (a famous spanish TV showman) playing a James Bond typical villain look-a-like and he succeeds. To the spanish viewers the best part of the film will be the incredible number of cameos that there are: to some TV "freaks" like "Gran Hermano"'s Iñigo, catalonian TV-showman Andreu Buenafuente (reprising his role in Torrente 1) and also some humorists (Manuel Barragan). A great and funny movie. 9 out of 10.

Hilarious

Never seen the first Torrente, but if it's as good as this one, I'm there. Santiago Segura is excellent as the overweight, rude, crude and downright nasty detective caught in some elaborate plot in Marbella which doesn't really matter since the movie is a collection of gross gags and outrageous situations... Torrente is one funny man and he's ably supported by a cast of weirdos, including his slow-witted assistant Cuco, a madman obsessed with his pet monkey, a crime boss with a panty fetish, an overweight kid in a wheelchair dreaming of being a detective, and a lot more. One of the funniest films I have ever seen, proving why Segura is a cult icon in Spain. **** out of 4.

Torrent is getting worst character (as if was possible) the picture don't !!!
elo-equipamentos20 September 2019
In this sequel Torrent is getting worst, more bad nasty, filthy and insane, however the picture was almost in same level of the original, this time Torrent was rich, but lost all his money on gambling, back to work as private detective was involved with a local mob on Marbella, CIA's agents and a lunatic who planned shot a missile over Marbella if the Mayor don't pay the blackmail, always side by side by his inseparable adjunct, the dumb Cuco, he starts a deep investigating, later he finds his real father as a mob's leader, many gags and several embarrassing situations gave to the movie another impact in the audience, a bit inferior than the previous one, still enough funny to hold us n chair, really outrageous!!

Resume:

First watch: 2010 / How many: 3 / Source: Cable TV-DVD / Rating: 7

Not funny

First one was much better, I had enjoyed it a lot. This one has not even produced a smile. The idea was showing how deep down can human kind fall, but in reference to the characters not the film-maker.

. Torrente he gets involved in a blackmailing against the mayor of Marbella.

After I saw Torrente 2 in Spanish I didn't know what to say... I've never seen any comparable kind of humor in a movie before! But I realized that Mr. Segura tried to gather some typical "inpolite" attitudes of Spanish society concentrating them in the character of Torrente. So this movie can be seen as a very exaggerated reflection of the low-class-society in Spain (e.g. have a look at the low register language Torrente employs!). But just that makes the flick so funny in a (in Germany) never seen form before.

The German sync.-version is a catastrophe! The expressions Torrente uses are too hard in German and too unusual. That makes the character "Torrente" some kind of confusing. Anyway I recommend this movie, especially when you dominate the Spanish language!

Super movie, cool humor

I've seen Torrente 1. GREAT. Torrente 2 is Great too. It is an outrage that Torrente 2 is not available in the Netherlands. I have just ordered a copy in Spain with English undertitles. Torrente 2 is raunchy, dirty and full of big and small jokes. Santiago Segura is the KING.... Torrente rules and i hope he will makes lots of other Torrente's. The More the better. I liked the part in T2 where he is sitting and peeing in a swimming pool making racist remarks with his white FAT belly. Segura makes Torrente look like a real loser who thinks he is great. Wrong closes, sunglasses and foul language completes this dirty old ba****d.

These movies are my favourite in my dvd collection. I'd never knew that Spain had such fantastic humor. My compliments to you....

A must-see Spanish movie
missmara5 February 2002
If you are interested in testing your Castillian Spanish, this is the place. Go ahead, put the subtitles on, and get ready for a lesson in Spanish cursing.

Although the film critics did not like this movie any more than its predecessor, Torrente, El brazo tonto de la ley, the audiences have cast their vote at the box office. This movie is disgusting, perverted, repulsive, and most importantly, very funny.

Forget about the haunting Spanish dramas Abre los ojos and Todo sobre mi madre. Spain needs more productions like Torrente to get the Spanish people interested again in Spanish cinema.

The Spanish Godfather

Torrente 2 is a funny film that reviews all the important themes of the Spanish topics. It's a really ironic film, that needs to be seen from the point of view of how to hate the worst person in the World.

Santiago Segura plays the role of Torrente, and is able to make you hate him, and you can't stop laughing when you understand the sense of this film.

Torrente is back in this one. He is great as political-incorrect detective scumbag. I think this one is even better than the first one. And the first one was great too. The good acting, beautiful colours and incorrect jokes has resulted in a first class rude comedy. It's not recomendable for women with a bad taste of humour. This movie is my favourite one. Rumours say that Torrente 3 will soon be made...Can't wait to see that one. Very lousy is the fact that Torrente 2 is hard to get in the Netherlands. I had to buy it from a Spanish internet seller. At the moment Santiago Segura is the best that Europe has to offer..!!!!!!

Laugh as much as you can
pscepeda3 April 2001
Spanish humor genius Santiago Segura comes back with a more refined and professional version of P.I. P.I (Politically Incorrect Private Investigator) Jose Luis Torrente.

This time, as the titles says, he leaves the dreadful streets of old Madrid and settles in the sunny city of Marbella in southern Spain. This change of background is noticed just reviewing the cast (featuring Supermodels like Inés Sastre, Esther Canadas). But Torrente remains the same, absolutely simple, eager to catch every woman near him, and of course very traditionally spanish. He's the funny Mr Hide inside everyone of us.

In this second movie very interesting characters broaden the plot of the movie, and a bigger budget make thee film more similar to a James Bond movie.

Unexpected situations, and spanish typical situations will make you laugh with no possibility to stop.

Don't miss the spectacular opening credits. They just deserve watching the movie.

That's the best (I repeat it, the best). Santiago Segura brings us a beautiful sequel for the first Torrente... Funnier that the first part. I can't describe the pleasure of watching Torrente 2, because it's simply GREAT. Gabino Diego's performance is awesome. Really. Rating: 10/10

Really great!
rolherr7 April 2001
Well, first of all, to those who have seen "Torrente: El brazo tonto de la ley", I found this second part much, much better. It has many more gags, jokes and funny situations and it isn´t boring at any time. Santiago Segura has created again a box-office movie which will make you laught for about two hours. Gabino Diego has an incredible performance as Cuco, and Torrente is as "special" as always. He is as politically incorrect as he was in the first film, but fantastic. Hurray for Torrente!

Review of Torrente 2
jclarahortelano10 November 2023
Torrente 2 is a comedy and adventure movie. It was directed by Santiago Segura. The movie is set in Marbella. It tells the story of Torrente and his adventures with his friends. The cast includes Santiago Segura, who plays the role of Torrente, Gabino Diego plays the role of Cuco and Tony Leblanc plays the role of Mauricio Torrente.

At the beginning of the story, Torrente, a man with a lot of money because his previous job was a success, decided to live in Marbella and work as a private detective. His mission is unveiling a dangerous gun dealer, Spinelli, who threatens to destroy the city of Marbella if he doesn,t get 2000 millions of pesetas. This mission was attempted with the help of Cuco and more friends. The best moment of Torrente was the shootout with the gansters. The characters are hilarious and not very smart.

In conclution, the film is funny, interesting and crazy. I don,t have any criticism of the film because it is perfect. We recommend it if you want to watch a black mood film. In our own opinion, Torrente 2 is incredible.

The follow up is awful.

I love the first Torrente film but the follow up is awful. I have never seen such crap. I didn´t smile once, not once. I´ve seen the first film five times. Unbelievable how fast things can change. The first film is a gem, the new one is a bomb!
