As part of the press tour for his new film "Creed III" -- whose fight scenes bring the franchise into anime territory -- Michael B. Jordan listed his five favorite anime series on BBC Radio 1: "'One Piece,'" "Dragon Ball," "Naruto," "Bleach," and "Hunter x Hunter." These are all worthy picks, even though it "would take the average person over 957 hours ... to complete Jordan's top five anime recommendations," as Isaiah Colbert said at Kotaku. "One Piece" has lasted for over a thousand episodes. "Dragon Ball" remains one of the most popular anime ever. "Naruto" featured some of the wildest fight scenes in anime history, while "Bleach" at its best was just cool. "Hunter x Hunter" is messier, spanning two adaptations and a source comic that has yet to finish. But its creator Yoshiharu Togashi has over 3 million followers on Twitter, and his dedicated fans haven't given up on him yet.

Shōnen manga is Japan's equivalent to American superhero comics, but comes with a few more storytelling advantages. Manga is more creator-driven; instead of different writers and artists rotating shifts on staple characters like at Marvel and DC, mangakas (manga artists) pitch and create the stories for their publisher. While Shōnen manga is primarily comprised of boys' adventure books, they tend to feature different types of adventurers: Shōnen heroes can be pirates, hunters, shinigami, alchemists, or ninjas. Since manga doesn't use a "shared universe" model, the barrier to entry is a bit lower.
Manga doesn't experience the same stasis as American superhero comics. Even if chapters go up into the hundreds, there's a forward progression and, eventually, an ending. Take "Dragon Ball," the godfather of modern Shōnen manga created by Akira Toriyama. Son Gokū is introduced as a child, growing up over the manga's 194 chapters. The manga's rebrand, "Dragon Ball Z,...

"House of the Dragon" is quickly becoming the best George R. R. Martin adaptation yet, a show that embraces the best parts of "Game of Thrones" but does away with what didn't work there. Sure, we may lack some of the sense of urgency from "Game of Thrones" and its catchy "Winter Is Coming" tagline, but by taking what is essentially just a history book and filling in the gaps of the story, we're getting a faithful-yet-surprising and poignant-yet-entertaining tragedy about the fall of a family due to very stupid choices.
But the show is not all violence, boobs, and funerals. "House of the Dragon" is also unafraid to be outright weird. After all, this is the show that gave us the gift that was Craghas Drahar, aka the Crabfeeder (rest in peace, king) and his army of crabs that ate people. Kazuki Takahashi, creator of the global manga and trading-card sensation Yu-Gi-Oh!, has died in his native Japan, the New York Times reported Thursday. He was 60.
He had been snorkeling while on vacation alone in southern Japan, and his body was found off the coast of Nago, the Times reported, citing Japanese Coast Guard officials. A cause of death was still under investigation.
Takahashi worked as a manga artist since the early 1980s. His 1996 one-off story about a boy who duels challengers with magical abilities wound up running for eight years in popular comic magazines, inspiring several long-running anime series, motion pictures, books and video game adaptations. “Master Duel,” the latest game inspired by the series, was released earlier this year.
But it was the trading-card version, released first in Japan in 1999 and three years later in the U.S., that made Yu-Gi-Oh! an international sensation.

Takahashi Kazuki, the creative force behind manga trading card and Japanese entertainment franchise Yu-Gi-Oh!, has been found dead, according to local public broadcaster Nhk.
It was reported Takahashi, whose real name is Kazuo Takahashi, was discovered floating while in snorkeling gear in near Okinawa Prefecture in Japan on Wedensday. A coast guard is looking into the cause of death.
Takahashi began as a manga artist in the 1980s and found success in 1996 when he created manga comic series Yu-Gi-Oh! and began serializing it in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. He later outlined the rules for an accompanying trading card game.
The franchise grew to span several TV shows, manga spin-offs and video games and is now one of the highest-grossing off all time. Notably, the trading card game, in which players face off against each other, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s best selling of its kind.

Takahashi Kazuki, a Japanese manga artist credited with creating the “Yu-Gi-Oh” comic book series, was found dead on Wednesday. He was 60.
Public broadcaster Nhk reported that Takahashi’s lifeless body was found in the sea, about 300 metres off the coast of Nago in Okinawa Province. It reported that he was wearing snorkeling equipment at the time.
The body was identified as Takahashi’s on Thursday after the Japan Coast Guard connected it to a white rental car that had been abandoned some 12 kilometres (7 miles) away. The Coast Guard said that Takahashi had traveled to Okinawa alone. His body bore no noticeable sign of injury and an investigation into the cause of his death has now begun.
Takahashi’s agency Studio Dice turned the artist’s web page black.

As a child of the 1990s, I was fortunate to grow up watching some of the absolute greatest animated shows in history, like "Hey Arnold!," "Arthur," and "The Animaniacs." My love of animation is truly lifelong, and thanks to my dad's lifelong love of the "Speed Racer" series, it was encouraged that I watch more than just American-made animation. Fortunately, I was just the right age for the arrival of two of the best anime of all time, "Sailor Moon" and "Dragon Ball Z." Produced by Toei Animation, "Dragon Ball Z" is the sequel show to the "Dragon Ball" anime series...

If you’re a lover of anime and Marvel, I’m going to assume you’ll like some Marvel anime. Personally, I got into Marvel long before I got into anime. I liked the Dragonball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and The Last Airbender shows, but Marvel was always my preference. So when I heard about some Marvel characters getting their own anime shows, it aroused my curiosity. Let’s start back when it all began, back in 2010. A four anime television series made through a collaboration between Marvel Entertainment and Japanese animation studio Madhouse. Each series was twelve episodes and featured some major players from

July has been a nice experience so far for anyone with a streaming service subscription. Nearly every platform has offered exceptional new content to watch, and as usual, Netflix leads the pack with some of the best new movies and shows available.
Subscribers have already been treated to the underrated epic Cloud Atlas, Adam Sandler’s often forgotten I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and emotional boxing tale Million Dollar Baby, among many, many others. And now, today brings even more new stuff to add to your binge list.
First up, Jason Mantzoukas and Tony Revolori star in the 2018 comedy The Long Dumb Road, and the title alone pretty much covers what this road trip flick is about. Critics praised the duo’s chemistry when the film released, and it currently sits at a fairly decent 74% on Rotten Tomatoes. So, if you’re in the mood for a humorous...

Every year, movies are being produced at faster rates and in greater quantity, and that’s thanks – in part – to streamers like Netflix. Because of their business strategy, customers can now watch thousands of films for the same price as a single cinema ticket. As such, the entertainment appetite of the American public has been growing stronger with each passing season. To that end, here’s an overview of the best new movies coming to Netflix next month.
First off, we got science fiction and fantasy. Fans of visiting other worlds will be in for a treat in July, as Netflix will be adding Cloud Atlas to its library. Directed by the Wachowski siblings – the same ones who created the now-infamous Matrix franchise – this time-traveling epic follows the stories of a handful of reincarnating souls who live their different yet similar lives across several centuries.

Anime, or Japanese animation, has been popular in the western world for quite some time. In recent years, however, its appeal has become a lot more mainstream. Thanks in part to the success of films like Parasite, American audiences are becoming more accepting of and interested in content produced on the other side of the globe.
And, of course, wherever there’s a cultural shift, there’s a streamer to profit off of it. To be fair, Netflix has been interested in content from that side of the world for much longer than the Academy Awards have. In the past, they acquired hit shows like Seven Deadly Sins, and even allowed Will Smith’s son to create one of his own.

For many Yu-Gi-Oh! players, the love of the card game evolved from watching the anime in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Although the real game has evolved well beyond the accompanying show, there’s still a fervent nostalgia for that era’s classic cards, packs, and decks. The likes of the Dark Magician, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Kuriboh, and many more are ingrained for fans as part of why we took interest in the first place, and why we’re still playing.
Fortunately, Konami’s aware of this and, although the original starter decks for Yugi, Kaiba, Joey and Pegasus can now be quite pricey to get a hold of, several newer versions have been released that adhere to more modern standards of play. These sets still contain many of the cards associated with Yugi, Seto Kaiba and other favorites, but also come with spells,...

Being stuck at home gave me the chance to watch lots and lots of Netflix. A little over a year ago, I revisited the old anime show called Yu-Gi-Oh! which was a big part of my childhood. As much as I really wanted to, I couldn’t find anyone that wanted to duel me. That was very disappointing, so I just stuck with the show and told myself that I would

Power Rangers Beast Morphers Season 2 Episode 3
It’s the 900th episode of Power Rangers! Every time we hit one of these hundred episode milestones I’m continually impressed and a little shocked Power Rangers has continually defied all odds and endured. Power Rangers has been up against some pretty big obstacles including channel changes, corporate restructurings, and rights-holders changing hands. No other show would have survived that and stayed on the air every single year. That’s impressive, no matter what you think of some seasons, and I gotta give it praise for that.
Sadly I don’t have the same praise for “Game On!” which is a huge shame because for the first half of this episode I was extremely impressed by it. It didn’t languish through it’s cold open for nine minutes, the show got right to the...

Following a month-long break from the platform, PewDiePie, seemingly rested and refreshed, has returned to YouTube.
The website’s most-subscribed independent channel has hit the ground running, too, with the content creator already back to uploading new videos on a daily basis. The first of these, titled “I went on a break for 30 days & This Happened” has PewDiePie react to various internet memes and humorous news stories that have emerged since his hiatus, with one of the first on the agenda being none other than a certain Fortnite streamer.
Tyler “Ninja” Blevins stirred up huge controversy on social media last week when, in response to one viewer’s comments that he shouldn’t get bent out of shape over “just a game,” criticized the view for being the sign of a “weak mindset” and that ‘real’ gamers should rightly be angry after a loss. And you can check out PewDiePie’s reaction up above.

The WB Network has ordered a second season of its hot summer reality series Beauty and the Geek. Meanwhile, following the success of such shows as Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokemon, Kids' WB! is adding another Japanese import to its schedule, Viewtiful Joe. Beauty and the Geek, from fox21 and producers Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, has been given an eight-episode pickup for a second cycle to premiere during the 2005-06 season, possibly midseason. That is two more episodes than the first installment of the unscripted series, now under way.
