The foundational Horror Story here is the issue of child abuse. Because of the seriousness of this subject, one might say that it's okay if subsequent gruesomeness is limitless. And it just about is. After the first half of the film portrays the adverse effects of mistreatment on a RESTRAINED eleventh-grader, the remainder shows how it is responsible for that same youth gone berserk, with plenty of gore from then on. (Too much, for me; but then, it's a gory topic, isn't it? A topic which deserves attention; however, I prefer to address it other than in a theatre.) The acting and writing is sincere, if not expert. A little more wordy than your usual slasher flick; even preachy. Better if not counted on solely for a scary good time.
