Cuban Ambush (1898)

*** (out of 4)

Spanish troops are walking through some woods when they come under attack by some Cubans hiding in a mill. Once the Spanish men are in range, the Cubans open fire on them. This Edison film runs a very brief 24-seconds but it's pretty entertaining thanks to some nice special effects. We get some real action as a couple men fall from the mill where they meet a violent death on the ground as the General happily stabs them over and over with his sword. As such a short length you can't do too much but the brief action is good enough to make this worth viewing for fans of early cinema.
