Subject: Vince Vaughn, 40-year old American actor, comedian, and producer
Date of Assessment: January 14, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Swingers, smooth-talking, money
Negative Buzzwords: Christmas movies, stagnation, monied
The Case: If I asked moviegoers to consider today's subject, the vast majority would express the same sentiment in regard to today's subject; that is, what the hell happened to Vince Vaughn? Babies, you know what I'm talking about when I refer to Vaughn's promising performance as Trent "Double Down" Walker in Swingers. Vaughn virtually materialized out of thin air to great effect -- women wanted him, and men wanted to be him. To put it quite simply, he was money... and he still is, but Vince's definition of "money" has drastically changed over the past fifteen years. Instead of a descriptor of coolness, the term now refers to what's rattling around in Vaughn's very oversized pockets. Then again, the size of the pockets has changed as well.

Now this just sounds like it could be good. Pajiba is reporting that Tobey Maguire has been cast in a new film called Prisoners of Trebek that Maguire Entertainment is developing for 20th Century Fox. The film is about a man who attempts to master Jeopardy (hosted by Alex Trebek), but ultimately finds himself and falls in love. It's based on a true story with a script written by William Wheeler (The Prime Gig, The Hoax). They don't know too much else about this, except that "it will be a heartstring-playing pic with elements of a Charlie Kaufman film." I'm in! See what I mean about how this sounds like it could be pretty damn good? No director is attached yet. Producer Mark Gordon (The Hoax, The Messenger, 2012) is currently searching and wants an A-list director. It sounds like we won't exactly see this next year, but if they find...

Actress Julia Ormond
Julia Ormond Is “In Her Animal”
By
Alex Simon
Julia Ormond made an auspicious debut as an actress in the landmark 1989 British miniseries Traffik, on which the Oscar-wining Steven Soderbergh film was later based, playing the drug-addicted daughter of a member of Parliament. By 1994, Ormond was being touted as the next Audrey Hepburn, with her old school glamour and classically-trained acting chops, earned at London’s prestigious Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts. High-profile turns in big studio pictures like Legends of the Fall and First Knight suddenly propelled the young, working actress into superstar status, with all the baggage that accompanies that much sought-after, and ultimately regrettable moniker.
With her turn in Sydney Pollack’s ill-fated remake of Billy Wilder’s classic Sabrina, in 1995, it all seemed to turn 180 degrees for Ormond, who suddenly found herself excoriated by the press that had built her up the year before.
