A few quick mid-week updates.
Eric Stoltz directed tonight's episode of Glee, "Big Brother," which airs at 8 pm on Fox. His next episode will be 3x19, "Prom-a-Saurus," which airs next month.
He also wrote a guest column in this week's Entertainment Weekly. Snippet:
When I first came to the Glee set last season, I could tell they’d been through a great deal - the actors were close-knit and a bit guarded, and rightly so. Who was this redheaded stranger coming into their world, asking questions and taking notes? Before I started directing a show, I try to spend a few weeks hanging around the set, getting to know the crew and talking to the actors about how they like to work. Who is fussy? Who is left-handed? Who wants to go home early, and who is the perfectionist? There is no “right” way to work, and familiarizing myself with...

The Killing is back tonight at 8 pm Et with a two-hour season premiere. Caprica and BSG folks who are definitely returning this season include Richard Harmon, Brian Markinson, Michelle Forbes and Callum Keith Rennie.
Andrew Airlie will also be recurring as "Dr. Madigan," and Kacey Rohl and Tahmoh Penikett might also make an appearance, but I haven't seen anything that would confirm this. TV Equals has a clip and the promotional photos from the premiere.
Also back tonight with a second season, Game of Thrones (9 pm). HBO has announced that the trailer for the new season of True Blood will be shown before the premiere. Let's see if they give us a first look at Christopher Heyerdahl's character.

Twilight Vampire Lands in True Blood Season 5
Actor Christopher Heyerdahl probably avoids the sun most of the time. This is because, in the insanely popular Twilight Saga films, he acts as Marcus, a member of the scary aristocrats, The Volturi. That’s a rather complicated way of saying he plays a vampire. A new gig will ensure Heyerdahl continues to keep his skin nice and pale. The outrageously tall actor will now be joining the HBO network’s hit drama, True Blood.
In fact, Deadline says, he’ll enjoy a nice recurring role.
Though Twilight and True Blood have some night an day differences, it is playing a member of Stephenie Meyer’s Volturi that should well prepare Heyerdahl for his new part. His character is Dieter Braun, a very, very old and very, very powerful vampire who contributes to the intelligence of The Authority.

Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Sasha Roiz and Reggie Lee also star. And some interesting spoilers for the rest of the season, from Entertainment Weekly:

Deadline Hollywood has some exciting casting news for Christopher Heyerdahl, probably best known to Twilighters as the rather sedate Volturi member, Marcus, in The Twilight Saga. Christopher has just been cast in a recurring role on True Blood where he’ll be back to playing a vampire once again. Read more from Deadline below:
Exclusive: Christopher Heyerdahl, who plays an ancient vampire in the Twilight Saga movies, will now play one in another screen adaptation of a popular book series — this time on TV.
Heyerdahl is joining HBO’s hit vampire drama True Blood in a recurring role. He will portray Dieter Braun, an ancient, powerful vampire who plays a large part in the intelligence of the Authority and especially enjoys enhanced interrogation. That is familiar territory for Sanctuary alum Heyerdahl, who played the ancient Volturi vampire Marcus in three of the Twilight movies: New Moon, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and the upcoming Part 2.

He’s been a demon in Supernatural, he plays Jack the Ripper And Big Foot in Sanctuary, and an ancient vampire in the Twilight movie series. That last one will come in handy, as Christopher Heyerdahl has been cast as … an ancient vampire in the upcoming season of True Blood.
We told you last month that showrunner Alan Ball has teased that in season five “we’re really going to find out what the Vampire Authority is all about.” Deadline broke the news that Heyerdahl will play Dieter Braun, an ancient and powerful vampire who is part of that Vampire Authority and who particularly enjoys “enhanced interrogation.” Biggie aside, Heyerdahl is so very good at playing chillingly terrifying nasties. Excellent.
He joins Christopher Meloni, Valentina Cervi, and Lucy Griffiths as new-to-us vamps joining – or not, as the case may be – our pals in Bon Temps.

Get your fangs back out, Christopher Heyerdahl. You'll need them this this summer.
The actor - most recently seen on Hell on Wheels as The Swede, but also known to many for his role as Marcus from The Twilight Saga - will recur on season five of True Blood as an ancient vampire named Dieter Braun.
According to Deadline, the character is connected to the Authority and has a fondness for enhanced interrogation.
Christopher Meloni of course, has been named a series regular on the HBO smash and many believe that long-time Svu star will be portraying the Authority himself.

"Twilight" actor Christopher Heyerdahl will be joining the cast of HBO's "True Blood." Yes, it's his second turn as a vampire, and this is a guy who's played Bigfoot and Jack the Ripper in Syfy's "Sanctuary." Heyerdahl might be the current king of monsters.
According to Deadline, Heyerdahl will play the recurring role of Dieter Braun, an ancient, powerful vampire who plays a large part in the intelligence of the Authority and especially enjoys enhanced interrogation. Hey, he's got that vampy face. One can see why he keeps playing supernatural characters. Heyerdahl played the ancient Volturi vampire Marcus in three of the "Twilight" movies, a demon in "Supernatural" and a wraith in "Stargate: Atlantis."
He currently co-stars on the AMC drama series "Hell on Wheels" (just renewed for a second season) where he plays The Swede. Heyerdahl will be joining the recently cast hottie Christopher Meloni on "True Blood."...

Christopher Heyerdahl shouldn't work on his tan anytime soon.
The veteran actor who played ancient Volturi vampire Marcus in the Twilight movies will continue to fang it up on HBO's True Blood, Deadline reports. He'll play Dieter Braun, one of the five council members of the Vampire Authority, the highest-ranking governing authority over all vampires. Braun appears relatively mild-mannered, but revels in innovative torture techniques while interrogating prisoners.

Did Steve Carell return to The Office right under our Dunder Mifflin-lovin’ noses?
Last week’s episode of the NBC comedy found the office staffers participating in a trivia-a-thon at a gay bar, and if you look closely at the photo to the right (which was shared by the New York Post), that bearded member of the brilliantly named Queerenstein Bears looks an awful lot like a disguised Carell.
Alas… NBC burst everyone’s bubble Wednesday morning when they told The Washington Post that the trivia whiz was not an incognito Carell. (For now though, we’re choosing to believe Michael Scott was reunited,...

If you're going to cast a new vampire on the HBO series "True Blood", why not pick a guy who's played the ancient Volturi vamp Marcus in three of the Twilight movies - New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and the upcoming Part 2 - as well as a creepy Swede in "Hell on Wheels" and a demon in an arc on the CW’s "Supernatural"? If you're going to add a vamp to the "True Blood" cast, why not look to the best fang-based franchise out there, Twilight? I'm obviously joking, but you still have to wonder if HBO purposely cast Twilight thesp Christopher Heyerdahl in yet another vampire role. That's typecasting to the extreme, and frankly, a bit lazy. Deadline reports that Christopher Heyerdahl, best known for his role as the elder Vampire Marcus in The Twilight Saga , will play another creature of the night in the the popular adaptation of the Charlaine Harris books. Heyerdahl will play Dieter Braun, described in recent a casting call as follows: 40s to 50s. Mature and self-possessed, calm and authoritative, with a piercing gaze, this vampire of average build is nevertheless extremely intimidating, and he uses innovative methods to torture a prisoner during an interrogation. You’ll have to forgive my insolence, but the James Cameron-produced, Andrew Adamson-directed 3D Cirque du Soleil film slipped from my mind over the past 13 months. Though I was reminded of it in a pretty positive way (or, as positively as one could take this news): A press release tells us that Paramount has acquired the project, titled Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away.
We aren’t told anything about the story, actors, or wacky contortions in this announcement, but we can nevertheless expect “a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages.” Even without that information at hand, I’m pretty confident in saying this is a project I’ll only lend some attention toward — primarily because of Cameron‘s technical work in the 3D department. A new movie from the director of Shrek and Narnia just isn’t in my wheelhouse of interest.

Here are a few updates to wrap things up for the week:
Someone has posted an early Christmas present for us on Vimeo - the full pilot for Ron Moore's 17th Precinct. Huge props to Caprica City (Twitter) for the find!
Apparently it's been up there for a couple of months now, but some of us were too busy whining about no air date to notice.
The pilot was directed by BSG's Michael Rymer and has what's probably the best ensemble cast since Caprica went off the air: Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Stockard Channing, Esai Morales, Eamonn Walker, Tricia Helfer and Matt Long. You can watch it on Vimeo or keep scrolling, it's embedded below.

Christopher Heyerdahl makes his first appearance as the Swede in Hell on Wheels 1x02, "Immoral Mathematics," which airs tonight at 10 pm on AMC. He's been getting great reviews for the show (see here), so see the episode if you get a chance. Here is another one, from The Boston Globe:
Indeed, once a character known as the Swede (Christopher Heyerdahl) shows up in episode 2, with his silent-picture expressiveness and the kind of threatening presence usually found in Coen Brothers movies, I was fully invested in the show and looking forward to seeing the rest of the 10-episode season. The Swede is just the kind of twisted psycho creep you want to watch closely, the showiest bad guy in the “Hell on Wheels’’ stampede of antiheroes led by financier, swindler, and railroad builder Thomas Durant (Colm Meaney). And here is what the A.V. Club says:

Fans of 'America's Most Wanted' can rest easy. Host John Walsh has come through on his promise to find a new home for the weekly series after it was cancelled by Fox back in May. Later this year the veteran law-enforcement show will launch its 25th season on ... Lifetime.
It sounds like an odd pairing, but the two may not be as mismatched as first appears. Earlier this summer, Lifetime President and General Manager Nancy Dubuc spoke of the network's new push to embrace the contemporary woman.
And, according to Deadline, although the series seems very macho and guy-oriented on the surface, if you dig a little deeper you find that it's actually female-skewing because of its "wish-fulfillment element that justice will be served."
In a statement announcing the move, Dubuc said "'America's Most Wanted' is a seminal program that provides...

Some updates to end the week.
Let's start with the Gemini nominations. Carmen Moore has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for Blackstone, and BSG's Callum Keith Rennie and Sam Witwer also got best actor nods for Shattered and Being Human. Big congrats to all!
With Gun Hill Road opening in New York this weekend, Esai Morales is everywhere. Fox News Latino has a short interview with him and Rashaad Ernesto Green. Snippet:

The Caprica Season 1.5 DVD is out this Tuesday (Dec. 21) and you can still pre-order it on Amazon. NBC has sent out copies for review and the first interesting bits about the commentary tracks come from IGN's Eric Goldman; one about plans to have James Callis and Tricia Helfer appear in the second half of season one, and another about one of the Final Five appearing in season two (if the show hadn't been pulled).
If you haven't seen the last five episodes, the general consensus is that they're the best part of the season. For better or worse, the show got a lot more prequelized and the hour that was cut last year can be felt, especially in the last two episodes, but the storylines, characters, dialogue and everything else stayed as frakking inspired as it always has been. Be warned, though. The finale wraps up the most prominent storylines...

James Wan (Saw, Death Sentence) will direct and oversee screenplay development on Nightfall, an adaptation of the 2007 graphic novel by Scott O. Brown about a man sentenced to a prison facility run by vampires, according to Deadline.
The novel focuses on David Paxton, an “industrious, right-wing survivalist” locked away in a Texas prison where vampires feed on the inmates. His only hope of escape is a riot and an uneasy alliance with a ruthless killer.
This should not be confused with the sci-fi short story by Isaac Asimov, a version of the DC Comics supervillain, or the similar script by Michael Stokes about two mercenaries who kidnap a Vampire queen.
It has been interesting to see how the vampire genre has evolved and been interpreted in the past few decades. Interview with a Vampire re-established your typical Victorian bloodsuckers in the post-modern era, only to be replaced four years later...
