Film distribution veteran Ryan Krivoshey is taking a page from the success of “An Inconvenient Truth,” advocating for global issues by betting on film as the most potent tool for spreading awareness. The Founder and President of indie distributor Grasshopper Film recently formed a new production company, Grasshopper + Marks Productions, which focuses on producing issue-based films whose stories can inspire major movements.

One of the most innovative aspects of this strategy is how the company plans to find those stories. Krivoshey has partnered with his wife Beata Gutman Krivoshey’s advisory film Grasshopper Global, which builds social purpose campaigns for clients ranging from Disney to the United Nations Foundation, and with Andy Marks’ brand consultancy and production company Marks Entertainment + Media. The plan is to connect companies, non-profit organizations and government agencies with filmmakers to help tell issue-driven stories,...

In hindsight, the fact that two films about Christine Chubbuck are being released within a month of one another may be less strange than the fact that it took 40 years for a movie to be made about her in the first place. Chubbuck, a reporter in Sarasota, Florida whose on-air suicide made national headlines in 1974, is the basis of both Robert Greene’s “Kate Plays Christine” and Antonio Campos’ “Christine.” Greene’s (mostly) nonfiction endeavor has just released its official trailer and poster on Vulture.

In the trailer, we see as indie stalwart Kate Lyn Sheil prepares to play the reporter over the last few days of her life — an undertaking that includes interviews, rehearsals and musings on the nature of acting itself. Cupid's arrow takes a circuitous route before finding its mark in Man Up, a truly rib-tickling rom-com that delivers the heady buzz of a great first date. But it's American actress Lake Bell (doing a fine English accent, here) who looks set to win viewers' hearts, more so than leading man Simon Pegg who generously acts as her 'straight man' - albeit slightly dizzied by the whirlwind of weird that Bell creates around him.
Bell, who also impressed with her 2013 writing/directing debut In a World..., stars as Nancy, vaguely depressed at still being single and incorrigibly goofy at 34 years old. However, judging by the way she tucks into a baguette on a crowded train, simultaneously complaining about her love life, she's not overly self-consciousness either. Has Amanda Bynes been hit by Cupid's arrow? "I'm In Love With Someone Else Who I Do Not Follow on Twitter Who Is The Most Gorgeous Man I Know," she tweeted on Monday, adding: "But Drake Comes In Second." Of course, if you're Drake, coming in second is actually pretty good considering how Bynes had repeatedly called the rapper "ugly" before later apologizing to him. Although, Drake is also probably a bit confused seeing how, just prior to tweeting about him being second in the looks department, Bynes had tweeted: "Drake Is The Most Gorgeous Man On The Face Of The Earth." Then, of course, there's the other Drake—as in Drake Bell—who wrote...

"Teen Wolf" continues with its parade of disturbing deaths in "Unleashed." This time, it's Mr. Harris (Adam Fristoe), the chemistry teacher, who falls prey to the serial killer/supernatural creature/messed-up druid of Beacon Hills.
But what is the purpose of this sad death, a departure that deprives us of the most messed-up Beacon Hills High teacher? Find out in this recap.
Human sacrifice: It's not just for virgins anymore!
We can all rest easy: The creepy killer of virgins has moved on in "Unleashed." The newest murder victims have all had plenty of sex in their lives, so that's no longer the motive. But what is?

Washington, Feb 9: A University of Notre Dame sociologist has tried to study the impacts of physical attractiveness and age on mate selection and the effects of gender and income on relationships.
Elizabeth McClintock's research offers new insights into why and when Cupid's arrow strikes.
In one of her studies, 'Handsome Wants as Handsome Does,' McClintock examines the effects of physical attractiveness on young adults' sexual and romantic outcomes (number of partners, relationship status, timing of sexual intercourse), revealing the gender differences in preferences.
"Couple formation is often conceptualized.

Justin Timberlake isn't the only one out there looking for Summer love, so Jimmy Fallon brought back his 80's dating service for Monday night's "Late Night."

So if you're looking for someone to go to the beach with, or just chill in a lawn chair and shoot the breeze in the sun, Fallon's taken all of the guesswork out for you.

I'm thrilled to announce that today, March 6, I'll be officiating a same-sex marriage ceremony in New York City. Though the couple won this through my "Love Is Love" contest on our Happily Divorced Facebook page, I take the job quite seriously. I'm just so happy I can leverage my celebrity to help bring focus to marriage equality for all.
People ask if I'll be nervous officiating the ceremony, and I say, "Please, I may have gotten my minister's license, but I'm still a Jewish woman, and if there's one thing we're comfortable doing, it's giving orders."
The heart has reasons that reason does not know. When Cupid's arrow strikes (whether it's opposite-sex couples, racially mixed couples, or same-sex couples), it's a feeling that can't be denied. Love in all its diversity is a part of the human experience.

Jimmy Fallon revisited his "discovered" '80s dating service, "Cupid's Arrow," on Monday night's episode of "Late Night." As Fallon explains, the show's studio was once used for a video dating service. What's a video dating service, you may ask? Imagine your parents hooking up through this before Ok Cupid was invented. (On second thought, don't imagine your parents hooking up at all.)
Once again, we hear testimonials from the colorfully-named James Spadge, Chiz Dippler, Brustin Pauch, Albert Manfield, Gary Chutch and the first-name-only Latin heartthrob Jose, the lead singer of the band Crisp. Any resemblance to Fallon or other "Late Night" usual suspects Steve Higgins, A.D. Miles and Bashir Salahuddin are purely coincidental.
The "Cupid's Arrow" videos are directed by Fallon writer Dan Opsal, and they always impress us with their excellent recreation of the '80s VHS aesthetic. If NBC is going to live in the past, Fallon's...

Before we see Anne Hathaway slip into a skintight bodysuit as a motorcycle-riding, stiletto-heeled Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, she shows a far more tender side in romantic drama One Day.
And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, The Big Picture has fired its Cupid's arrow at the tale of "best friends, regret, missed opportunities and love", which is out on Blu-ray and DVD this week.
Directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education), One Day follows the story of Edinburgh students Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess), who meet on the day of their university graduation, July 15 1988. It catches up with the pair on the same day for the next 20 years as they experience the highs and lows of adulthood both together and apart.

What's Valentine's Day without a little chocolate indulgence? But too much could throw months of diet progress in the trash. From a 1,580-calorie slice of cake to Culver's "Concrete Mixer," The Daily Beast ranks the 22 unhealthiest chocolate desserts.
A few things come to mind during Valentine's Day: Cupid's arrow, flowers, first dates, and anniversaries, and of course, chocolate. Year in, year out, chocolate sales around Monday's holiday reach into the hundreds of millions of dollars, making it a tempting opportunity to put those new year's diet resolutions on hiatus.

This week on Clip joint, chuck away the liferaft and start gathering firewood as Tess Morris picks the best clips showing islands on film
John Donne once said that no man is an island. He obviously hadn't seen Mamma Mia!. Whether it's a Greek archipelago, populated with illegitimate fathers, or a lush Costa Rican retreat for dinosaurs, islands have become synonymous with storytelling in cinema, and for good reason.
If you're looking for a world that your characters can escape from, run to, be stranded, imprisoned or lose their virginity on, (yes, I am referring to The Blue Lagoon), then look no further than an island. An island is your one-stop shop should you require any of the following in your movie: action, intrigue, love, death, political intrigue, mayhem, murder, or Elvis with a guitar.
Do you need to physically and metaphorically have your protagonist stranded at sea, struggling to find the meaning of life?...

Truth be told, I was not looking forward to seeing "Valentine's Day." I'm not a big romantic-comedy fan, nor do I like big, ensemble cast in films -- I've always thought they're just merely gimmicks.
Well, gimmick or not, I fell in love with the cast of "Valentine's Day." Some actors were stronger than others, of course, but everyone pulled their weight.
Sure, director Garry Marshall has made soft and fluffy films like "Beaches," "Pretty Woman, both "Princess Diaries" movies, but at least he knows how to balance the romantic with the comedy.
I suspect moviegoers will enjoy "Valentine's Day." There are some predictable subplots (but nowadays, predictability and romantic comedy pretty much go hand-in-hand) and don't expect too much character development (it's hard to develop a character when you have 20 other characters to nurture).
But I guarantee you -- "Valentine's Day" will make you feel good!
