Typically overwrought loop carrier, pure rehash

Warning: Spoilers
Credited to a variety of fake alter egos (Erica Fox, Pierre Balakoff), Ted Roter's STEPHANIE'S LUST STORY seems way too familiar, as the itinerant pornographer ploughs the same infertile land he already clobbered several times before. Yes, another tale of an innocent girl adrift in nasty old, mean-spirited Hollywood - I prefer the exact same oft-repeated (see: Barry Mahon) cliché set in the Big Apple.

Title Steph character is Roter's favorite lead Gena Lee, pretty and a pretty good actress who deserved a better career than being Bo Derek to Ted's John D. If played straight it would just be a bore, but what we have here is a thinly disguised loop carrier.

All footage is suspect, with viewer needing to constantly ask: Is this a freshly shot (1982) scene or just a rehash of something faded already in my memory?. After a pointless opening of Gena comparing notes with two other gals that is lifted from Roter's LITTLE GIRLS LOST, first stag loop involves Nicole Black/Noir, who introduces it: a threesome with young Mike Horner.

Next stag is a threesome with lesbian sex involving Gena, so it is ambiguous whether this is a new scene for this new film we're watching, or just some old-recycled Gena routine.

It's an important scene because it sets up blackmail, ruining her reputation. Roter regular Bill Margold is shown in another LITTLE GIRLS LOST scene as creepy agent/manager named Jack Stein (no overt anti-semitism here I will begrudgingly concede), who's matter-of-fact detailing of the realities of show biz is dully recited by him and merely reflects his internalizing (a la Ron Jeremy) all the popular clichés.

He dangles her the meagerest of life preservers: possibility of a producer hiring her to do porn. Irony is not lost on fans of the real-life actress Gena we're watching play Stephanie.

Next loop has the wonderful Tigr plus frineds for lesbian sex plus a troilism finale. Later Gena goes to an interview where the creepy young producer Wayne Reynolds beats around the bush (so to speak) interminably until Gena recognizes a euphemism for what it is and humps him. He sticks a banana into her vagina so the fans won't feel cheated of something "different" from Ted.

Another loop of lesbians with a double dong dildo kills off the next reel, followed by picture's piece de resistance. Guest star Drea is directing a porn film for which Gena has landed a role but not starring. When it comes time for her to service two guys (one looks like Robert Bullock), Drea has a fit, repeatedly complaining (sometimes just an editing error whereby Roter keeps repeating her sound loops by mistake) that there's not enough feeling in the scene. Before you can say "ego trip", Drea strips and does it herself, bringing some life to the staging, and inspiring more action from our heroine too.

False ending (cute gag) actually has THE END superimposed on screen over Gena's shaved vagina as the filmed orgy hits its conclusion. But no, there's more footage in the main film awaiting our perusal, as next scene shows Gena getting drunk in her kitchen and then passing out on her couch. Yes, the nastiness of La-La Land that Margold is so fond of bringing up seems to have ensnared her permanently.

Time for another loop -standard-issue lesbian action with a guy named Eric cornily showing up to make it a threesome. More sex padding and flashback material is presented until finally we're back at the couch with Gena's hand falling to the floor and the real THE END title is flashed for folks who haven't dosed off to read and exit accordingly.

The knowledgeable IMDb-er from Belgium has called for a reassessment of Ted Roter's work, but the more I see (including carbon copies or variations on previously shot ideas) the more convinced I am that my first reaction was correct: he was an egotistical hack.
