This is one of my favorite wrestling video games of all time, let alone one of the only good wrestling games on the Nes. Not really a lot I can say about this one, except that this is a well function wrestling game which I though was a lot of fun and I still think it's fun, despite how retro it looks it part of what give the game it's charm.
The graphic presentation is good, really like the ring animated which is basic and the background with the audience is serviceable. But it's really the character models and the action that really make this game really good.
I really like the roster whom like in any wrestling roster are a colorful bunch that are all uniquely designed, let alone a couple of them look non-human but most importantly each are unique as they have their strengths and weakness, depending on which works best for you. Even like that we get a little background info on them which helps give them a bit of character.
Three favorites I like to play: 3. Amazon who is pretty much the Gill Man from "Creature from the Black Lagoon".
2. Giant Panther mainly because he looks like one of my favorite wrestlers Hulk Hogan, so I like to pretend I'm playing the Hulkster. Though he also looks like Rick Flair he's another favorite wrestler so it's fun to pretend I'm playing him also.
1. Star Man: This is the strangest looking wrestler, I know this is suppose to be a guy in a costume but from the coloring and that star mask, I'll admit as a kid I thought he was an alien or mutant. But I really like playing him because not just does he look coolly unusual but he's a little more balanced from the rest and has some killer moves.
Control in the game is good and response, same goes for the gameplay. It really made you feel like a wrestler, really love putting on the moves on your opponents depending on which direction you press the d pad and at the right time while you both grapple.
From the simple frontal throw, a counter waist throw, the power kick, the stand drop (forgot the proper name). You can even use the corners of the ring to perform the DDT. Use the ropes to slingshot yourself to perform a running strike or throw your opponents onto the ropes and slingshot them toward you and strike them down.
You can even throw your opponents ringside out and duke it outside the ring, but of course you still need to get back into the ring to pin you opponents down for a victory. Even like you get to sometimes hear audience cheering whenever you put on your best moves which is cool, what's wrestling without the sound of the crowd its music to my ears.
Only bad thing about the game is the music, it's not a bad tune but not the kind of tune I would replay over and over which unfortunately this game does. It would of helped if there was some variety in the music tracks, though if you want while playing this game you can just pop in your earbuds and play some tunes on your phone which could help the experience.
This vintage classic is slamming fun.
