Over 30 years after "American Gigolo" launched Richard Gere's career, the film is getting a TV adaptation with another suave leading man in the starring role. Jon Bernthal is taking over the reins as Julian Kaye, a former male escort who spent years being the object of affection until a murder charge landed him in prison. The series almost works as a direct sequel to the original film: picking up 15 years later, Julian is exonerated when new evidence comes to light proving he did not commit the murder that got him put away. But while trying to get back into his old scene, he realizes that picking up where he left off isn't as simple as he'd like. So he does as TV characters so often do, and gets to work trying to solve the murder himself.

Drew Hodges is at a loss for words. Asked if he’s surprised at the life he’s leading -- did he imagine he’d grow up to fly around the world orchestrating scenes with great actors and artists for his own wildly influential agency -- he pauses three entire seconds. “I wish I had an answer for you,” he says. “It's like, Come for the veal, stay for the floor show.”
You might not know Drew Hodges’ name, but if you’ve enjoyed some form of popular culture in the past decade, you’re living in a world he helped create. "When I started, the idea of theater was still very much that ‘fabulous invalid’ thing," he says, “sort of dying, old, kind of nostalgic. I was lucky enough to work on a lot of stuff that started to chip away at that."

Actor/comedian John Leguizamo has made autobiography and self-criticism staples of his body of work in both film and theater. One-man productions like Freak and Ghetto Klown are equally influenced by Richard Pryor and Woody Allen, full of self-lacerating gags about Leguizamo's various neuroses. And in Fugly!, a new "anti-romantic comedy" film, Leguizamo co-writes and stars as a Latino actor who writes, produces, and stars in his one-man shows after being repeatedly typecast as drug dealers and pimps in Hollywood films. Vulture talked to Leguizamo about laughing at himself, torturing his children with black-and-white movies, and breaking Bob Hoskins's arm while drunk during the filming of Super Mario Brothers: The Movie. Is it true you were named after John Saxon because your mom was a big fan?She wasn't a big fan — she was turned on by him. She liked that dark, brooding type, so she named me after...

The long awaited film written by Emmy winner John Leguizamo & Kathy Demarco directed by Alfredo DeVilla who also directed Leguizamo in the Latino Christmas family film "Nothing Like The Holidays." Similar to his stage shows (Freak, Sexaholics & Ghetto Klown) the semi-autobiographical "Fugly!" was shot in 2010 finally gets a release.
The film also stars Radha Mitchell, Rosie Perez, Yul Vasquez, Rosie Perez (and I have to mention Ally Sheedy. C’mon the Breakfast Club!). The story which has been described as “anti-romantic” centers around Jesse (Leguizamo) a nerd from the Bronx who was raised in a typical crazy Latino household where imagination is everything. Jesse eventually finds his way to college and pretty much goes nuts with the ratio of women to men. That’s where he will also meet Lara Perry (Radha Mitchell) who pretty teaches him how to open his wings. As with a lot of people who lose touch with people after college Jesse finds himself pursuing acting as his passion back in NYC where he meets Zowie, a sexy cat-like Puerto Rican poet and actress played by Rosie Perez.
Fugly! Is all about highs and lows of a career in the arts and how equally it affects our relationships. It’s also interesting that the screenplay allows John Leguizamo to explore the choices he himself has made as an actor rather than hide behind a “character”.
Below is the trailer (it’s kinda Nsfw)

Poor John Leguizamo. He's no longer eligible to snag the Emmy he won for "Freak" in 1999 – Best Performance in a Variety Special. The TV academy recently nixed that category, but his new "Ghetto Klown" competes in other variety races, including best special ("Freak" was nommed 15 years ago) and as Leguizamo told us during a recent webcam chat (watch below), he is particularly interested in one more. -Break- TV transplants don’t qualify because they don't have enough new, original material, but "I made so many changes from the Broadway version to the HBO version that it's really almost a different show." This show is his latest, brutal examination of a turbulent life spanning his gritty youth (battling prejudice, poverty and police in the barrio) to Hollywood rise ...

Making light of your own tumultuous life can be a strenuous process, but a gifted few are able to turn emotional pain into riotous humor. John Leguizamo makes a bid at joining them in his latest one-man show "Ghetto Klown," which will debut on HBO on March 22nd. In the trailer below, Leguizamo chronicles his life story, from his rocky upbringing to his early days in acting to his attainment of big roles on hit TV shows and movies, all while demonstrating the emotional highs and lows that have to come to define his career. "Ghetto Klown" was taped last November at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and marks the fifth time that one of Leguizamo's shows has been adapted as an HBO special, after the broadcast of "Mambo Mouth" (1991), "Spic-o-Rama" (1993), his Emmy-winning "Freak" (1998) and "Sexaholic... A Love Story" (2002). The show is produced by Rebel Productions, Insurgent...

Chicago – From Toulouse-Lautrec in “Moulin Rouge” and Luigi in “Super Mario Bros.” to Sid in “Ice Age” and Chi-Chi in “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar,” John Leguizamo has made a career out of playing a wide array of colorful and challenging roles. In 2010, the actor made a celebrated return to the stage and tackled his trickiest role to date: himself.
In “Ghetto Klown,” Leguizamo dug deep into his own tumultuous past, examining everything from his early journeys through Hollywood to his troubled relationship with his father. Ben De Jesus’s PBS documentary, “Tales from the Ghetto Klown” offers a candid look at the performer’s creative process as he writes the show, workshops it in snow-bound Chicago, garners cheers and mixed reviews on Broadway and spends a year transforming it into a Spanish-language show for Columbian audiences. Exclusive: Actor-comedian John Leguizamo has signed a development deal with ABC and ABC Studios. Under the pact, Leguizamo will star in and executive produce a single-camera comedy inspired by his professional, personal and family life in New York City. This would be the first comedy series for Leguizamo who previously co-starred on ER and The Kill Point and toplined the 2006 CBS drama pilot Edison. Search is underway for a writer to pen the comedy project, which will likely be developed off-cycle given the timing of the deal. Leguizamo will executive produce with his longtime manager Jeff Golenberg of the Collective as well as Mandeville’s David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Leguizamo is re-teaming with Mandeville after working with the company on Edison. He is not obligated to do an ABC pilot this season but will be exposed to some and could do one. Victor Rasuk, one of the stars of HBO's "How to Make It in America," grew up on Avenue D and East 8th Street, in the gritty outskirts of New York's East Village, much like his character on the show. Looking at him now, though, you would never assume he once aspired to be like the hustlers on Avenue D. In fact, he seems kind of goofy -- too friendly to be a tough guy and too good-looking for street fights.
"One of my favorite places is Tompkins Square Park," he says with a smile. "I learned to play basketball there, that's where I learned to play football, I had my first kiss in that park -- that park, to me, was my escape from the concrete jungle."
Growing up in the projects, acting seemed more like a dream than a reality. "I would go to Cafe Pick-Me-Up on Avenue A...

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.
And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

You don't have to have come of age in New York City in the 1960s and '70s to love John Leguizamo's "Ghetto Klown."
But it helps. It also helps to understand Spanish and street life from the 70s, but if you don't there's plenty in Leguizamo's hilarious one-man show.
His stories trace from his hardscrabble childhood in Queens to starring in this at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre. He's plumbed some of this ground before in other one-man shows: "Freak," "Sexaholic ... A Love Story," "Mambo Mouth" and "Spic-o-Rama."
Yet Leguizamo's done enough living in his 46 years and is such a keen observer and excellent mimic that this feels fresh. Like everyone, his childhood formed him, but unlike everyone, he can take what still feels raw and make it very funny.
He was so poor as a kid, Leguizamo says, "Crooks would break into our house and leave things."

John Leguizamo knows a thing or two about oversharing. “Sharing my unhappiness on stage is my happiness,” he says at the end of his new one-man show, “Ghetto Klown,” which opens on Broadway this Tuesday.
Leguizamo is well aware of the risks of putting his personal life on stage: he said his mother already has called him begging him to take out a frisky bit in the show involving herself, his wife, a few minutes of phone sex and a malfunctioning call-waiting button.
