When we all did the pools

Warning: Spoilers
Doing the football pools was a ritual each week well into the 1970s.At that time you could win £75000 for one old penny. In 1937 you could win £15000 which was still a lot of money. In this film the leading lady is sacked for doing the pools on company time. This notwithstanding the fact that Tommy, played by Gracie Fields brother, had won £500 on the pools. She drops her coupon on the way out.the foreman, whose advances she had rebuffed, puts his name on the coupon and posts it off.Tommy uses his £500 to buy a café and run it with his new girl fiend. It is no surprise to learn that the coupon has won.however before the cheque is presented to him his deceit is unmasked and the cheque presented to the rightful recipient. There are lots of musical numbers which are quite enjoyable if you are a fan of music hall and variety. That is with the exception of Douggie Wakefield.Lets just say that his broad comedy doesn't wear well.
