Dark black comedy with full of madness , bitterness and nastiness through .
ma-cortes17 December 2021
Acid movie portraying of a disintegrating marriage , turning out to be a riotous mix of dark comic tone , and , crime story with dramatic elements. Petra (Pilar Bardem) and Matías (Jose Sacristán) have been married for twenty years . She is a cellist and fond of spiritualism along with her friends who often use their house to celebrate spiritualist aquelarres . While Matias works at the medical school as an autopsy janitor . If at the beginning allegedly lived happily as a married couple ; some years later things go wrong . But several years after , things are so far away to be idyllic : Matias has been turned in a pallid man worried about his marriage and job supporting his longtime friend and colleague Luis (Agustín González) , a necroliphic anatomy professor . After a lot of years of marital bless , they begin their particular world war , as out of circumstance , both are living an infernal life in their Madrid apartment . Their differences finally caught with them after several years , and they ended up in a bitter confrontation , resulting to be really violent and extremely destructive . Both of them share a love for exquisite possessions and both want to stay in the house , and so they begin a campaign to eliminate each other to leave it . In the middle of the fighting is the sympathetic Angelines (María Barranco) , a Corte Inglés shop assistant with whom Matias falls in love . Under those circumstances, the couple is bound for an unnecessary , yet explosive and utterly catastrophic head-to-head collision, in a no-holds-barred civil war between sexes . He gets to see how far both will go to get rid of the other , and boy do they go far . So Petra discussions with Matías are common , although she takes great care of her never to raise her voice to him . Matías , however, does not care what people will say about their noisy arguments and screams unceremoniously . The neighbors , who are gossipy , are aware of everything that happens in that flat . But Matías falls madly in love and he has the ideal job to get rid of his wife who's unwilling to give up the house in the separation settlement . Both of whom rising level of hate between them and increasing an unstoppable escalation of violence and crime . Without a doubt , theirs is a sad story, however , is there any marriage destined to succeed?.

A decent and sour film with wicked and wince-inducting humour as well as sadistic roles , being supported on a disconcerting premise , a marriage war resulting in fateful consequences . Bemusing and fun film in ¨Robert Zemeckis' War of the Roses¨ style with nice performances , hilarious scenes and dramatic happenings . An amusing , diverting film , but some downbeat movie , about an unlucky married couple , as their love is gone and they try everything to get each other to leave the house in a vicious battle and as a result the couple is extremely embittered and determined to let all these years go down . Interesting and twisted script from Javier García Maurino , Fernando Morales , Fernando Fernán Gómez himself and Luis Alcoriza who was Luis Buñuel's screenwriter , in fact the movie is dedicated to his memory . Stars José Sacristán who gives a nice acting as the abusive husband who works as a janitor in the autopsy room of Medicine University and phenomenal Pilar Bardem as Petra , a sour and uncompromising character . Support cast is frankly well with plenty of familiar faces , such as : Chus Lampreave, Agustín González, Tina Sáinz , Francisco Casares , Pedro Beltrán , Mercedes Gamero , Saturnino Garcia , among others.

It displays an atmospheric and evocative musical score by Pablo Trujillo. As well as atmospheric and adequate cinematography by Hans Burmann , being shot in Madrid and surroundings : Pozuelo de Alarcón . Adding an evocative musical score by Mariano Díaz . The motion picture was professionally directed by Fernando Fernán Gómez , with originality and tension enough . Competently written and shot by Fernando Fernan Gómez, considered to be one of his best ones . He has written comedies, novels and poem books. Fernando plays a wide repertoire of roles from comedy to drama.
