A harsh reality

Warning: Spoilers
"Gregorio" is often considered one of the most iconic films from Peruvian cinema, and for very good reasons: This was one the first films from our country to show the harsh reality lived by many children in the city of Lima, without being patronizing or preachy.

Even when the main characters from this movie are children, this movie isn't happy or childish at all: In fact, it is incredibly realistic, to the point of being particularly bleak near the last part of the story. It also includes some documentary-esque elements, which worked pretty well, but what makes "Gregorio" a truly remarkable film are the great performances, which serve to make all the characters believable and closer to everyday reality, even when the script isn't always perfect.

This is one of the greatest Peruvian films ever made: I can clearly see the influence from "Gregorio" in many of the films produced in my country, but none of it had the same effect on me than this one.
