Al first showed up in Paul Terry's second cartoon, DOWN ON THE PHONY FARM in 1915. Terry would use him several times a year as he went to Van Beuren in the 1920s, and left to form his own studio at the dawn of sound. I suppose he was a lucky penny for Terry.
