Futuristic trailer
TheLittleSongbird11 June 2018
The Terrytoons are oddly interesting, mainly for anybody wanting to see (generally) older cartoons made by lesser known and lower-budget studios. They are a mixed bag in quality, with some better than others, often with outstanding music and with some mild amusement and charm and variable in animation, characterisation and content.

1937, like all the other years for Terrytoons, saw a hit and miss batch, more so than the other years even. Of which 'Trailer Life' is one of the high middle ones ranking it in correlation with the rest of the Terrytoons and one of the better 1937 cartoons. It is an unexceptional but above average cartoon that has the same amount of problems as it has the amount of strengths. 'Trailer Life' is also worth a watch, completest sake is the main reason to see it but it's not the only reason.

Best asset is the music, which predictably is incredible. It is so beautifully and cleverly orchestrated and arranged, is great fun to listen to and full of lively energy, doing so well with enhancing the action. The ambitious, elaborate detail in the backgrounds is still great to see, as is more fluidity and visual appeal than usual, and some synchronisation is neat.

Several amusing moments, with a pretty riotous second half, and there is zest and natural charm. Farmer Al Falfa is amusing and the trailer and its gadgets are great fun and quite inventive.

However, some of the animation in transitions is a bit crude.

Likewise, the story is paper thin in a practically plot-less cartoon for most of it. Gags could have been more and a few better organised. The cartoon is pretty predictable and only Farmer Al Falfa really is properly memorable of the characters.

Altogether, above average. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Warning: Spoilers
This is a cartoon in the Farmer Al Falfa series produced by Terrytoons. There will be spoilers ahead:

The basic premise in this one is that Farmer Al Falfa is living in a trailer he tows behind his car. This is no ordinary trailer-it has loads of push-button conveniences and labor-saving devices, though the gadgets are a bit rough on Al occasionally. There are some good gags in here, like Al's bed dumping him out and putting itself away when he doesn't get up right away after the alarm rings and his wardrobe grabbing him, yanking him roughly inside and then spitting him out fully dressed. The usual Terrytoons cost-saving measure of reusing footage is also found in here.

Al hears of an Indian (Little Big Bad Egg) escaped from the reservation and the Indian isn't dangerous, just "a little cracked". Al gets down his shotgun and a cap looking suspiciously like a skunk and decides to hunt down Bad Egg, only to be frightened by a poster.

In a development which might surprise a sleeping five year old, Al is found by the runaway and the tires on his car are flattened by arrows. There is now a battle of "wits" in which the combatants are evenly match-neither displays any. Al shoots a suspicious cactus and Bad Egg falls, complete with lily on his chest, only to spring to life again when Al comes out of his trailer.

Now comes a series of gags with Bad Egg trying to get into the trailer. He ultimately succeeds, but it proves to be his undoing. The last two minutes or so is hilarious, so I won't spoil them here. To a great degree, the cartoon is predictable, but it's a lot of fun nonetheless.

Worth watching.
