Paul Thomas made this Vivid rom-com, which provides a solid showcase of Mike Horner's talents as sort of the Tom Ewell of porn.
That's because he's a character actor fully capable of participating in XXX scenes, but at heart a comic foil for some of the most powerful ladies in the business. Ewell made hay opposite the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield -not exactly chopped liver.
Here we have Horner in a typical Walter Mitty role, daydreaming of co-worker Nikki Dial suddenly naked or at least transtormed into sexy lingerie. Originally released (using a familiar '90s approach) in 2 separate parts totally almost 3 hours of running time, it was reissued on DVD as "Sex" only 74 minutes long, the composite version I'm reviewing here.
Nominal story line concocted by PT deals with romances and promotions at a firm with a solid cast: Rocco Siffredi as boss and Tom Byron as best buddy to Horner. Terry Thomas and PJ Sparxx are a married couple who sort of counterpoint the rest of the cast's farcical hijinks.
Thomas's Old School allegiance to Adult Cinema as an adjunct to mainstream (namely having concise scenes spotted throughout a story rather than today's 30-minute all-sex vignette approach) stumped the only previous IMDb reviewer of "Sex", who completely missed the point. This is comedy, character-driven, likely making fun of the sex obsession that pays the bills, for PT and all lesser pornographers. It's NOT about strictly jack-off fodder.
In this story, after Byron rather callously exploits his pal's Horner's good will by setting him up with a date at home with dream girl Nikki Dial, only to bamboozle him by f*cking Dial in Mike's guest room, the short feature climaxes in a game of musical beds, as Horner humorously juggles suddenly having three horny women (Dial, Crystal Wilder and superstar Christy Canyon) after him, trying to make equal-time love to each of them, rushing around frantically. It culminates in the obvious solution, group-sex, as improbable as could be, but serving to adequately shift the wish-fulfillment away from timid Horner's character to the viewer at home.
That finale was the finish of "Sex 2" on VHS, and is included to end the subsequent DVD. Lost in the shuffle are entire performances by Mimi Miyagi and Rasha Romana.
