Medicine craziness

In spite of not being a major fan of Crazywolf, never was, the premise for 'Pay Your Buffalo Bill' is a truly great one and quite unique for the series. The Hoot Kloot series is one of the in between theatrical series from DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, same with that for Roland and Rattfink, and is generally a worthwhile if nothing extraordinary one. No classics on the same level of prime-Pink Panther but no epic misfires either like any of the Crazylegs Crane cartoons.

'Pay Your Buffalo Bill' is one of the best of the Hoot Kloot series, would even go as far to say that it is a contender for the best. It is not at all hard to see why it is one of the highest rated here as of present and it deserves to be. While not without flaws or amazing, there are a lot of truly great things about 'Pay Your Buffalo Bill' and it is one of the few cartoons in the series to have a more creative premise than usual and execute it in a way that felt fresh.

There are times where the character animation is on the scrappy side. Particularly for Hoot Kloot.

Still find Crazywolf on the obnoxious side, the constant manic laughter grates on the nerves, and Larry D. Mann overdoes it a bit. Having said that, he is more tolerable than his previous appearances because he does have some of his most inspired moments here in 'Pay Your Buffalo Bill' and amuses.

A lot is done right here in 'Pay Your Buffalo Bill'. It is one of the best looking cartoons in the series on the whole, with some very vibrant colours and the abstractness of the backgrounds is still very detailed. What makes it one of the best looking cartoons though is the animation for the side effects of the medicine, which is quite imaginative. The music still has a lot of energetic character and really excites in the use of instruments. Bob Holt excels once again as both Hoot Kloot and Fester, especially as the former.

Hoot Kloot is as entertaining loud-mouthed as ever and Fester still has his funny lines and likeability. 'Pay Your Buffalo Bill' is one of the funniest Hoot Kloot cartoons. Not just for the sharp wordplay and dialogue but in particular for the funniest part of the whole series, the John Wayne impression as part of a side effect. The series is often a very amusing one, but there are not many hilarious moments but that moment was. The side effects animation and material are inventively done.

Concluding, good. 7/10
