A cat tries to catch a meal among an assortment of birds in this 1935 black and white Terrytoon.
This effort shows some mixed results. The character design for the main characters is simple and clean; their movements are fully animated and fluid. The cat, a lyrebird and a baby bird are the main characters and fall into this category. Most of the birds are handled as a group, with partial animation and clunkier design.
In addition, Terry's staff is borrowing from other Terrytoons, and recent ones at that. The cat punishes himself for each failed attempt to eat a bird, like the spider in March's THE MOTH AND THE SPIDER.
One small advance is the first imitation of a star's voice. This was a staple of cartoons, but the cat has one line, which he does in a way that sounds like Bert Lahr.
