Deadeye Dick has been shooting a sheriff every day in Peaceful Gulch. Gandy Goose skips into town and takes up the lawman's badge in this entry to the occasional series from Terrytoons.
Gandy Goose was one of Terry's lesser stars, with one or two cartoons a year from the end of the 1930s through the early 1950s. His manner and voice were based on Ed Wynn's "Perfect Fool" character and the blithe way in which Gandy performed his absurd gags. Usually he was teamed with Sour Puss, who was based on Jimmy Durante. Here he faces his villain alone.
While this is not among the best of the Gandy Goose cartoons, director Eddie Donnelly handles the gags and situations well, aiming them at Terry's usual audience of small children. It works here for me because the gags are handled in a style reminiscent of the way small children act at play.
