This is an excellent late silent Terry-Van Beuren effort. I must admit that my viewing was improved by looking at a sound reissue with a non-intrusive score by Winston Sharples... but then perhaps the reason don't rate most of this cartoon's contemporaries higher is bad scoring! That aside, it's one of the standard plots of the era as the cat kidnaps the girl mouse and the boy mouse goes in pursuit. Most of the gags are standard but very well timed -- again the score helps. The visuals, aside from the animation, which is standard for the era, are excellent, since the setting is Babylon -- and not the medieval Babylon, with Minarets, but pre-Muslim, which allows a few gags involving the cats assisting the chief villain. The overall effort is startling good.
