Radio Paradiso?
caspian197822 April 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike the love for the cinema and the love a small town had for their local movie house, The Day Silence Died is far from a great movie. INstead of the cinema, radio is introduced to a small Spanish town in the middle of nowhere. The movie opens slow with an arrival of a theater group. All the characters that are introduced are quickly gone as the movie moves many years into the future. Although the event is important to some degree, the bulk of the opening is wasted. The small town slowly accepts a mysterious lodger who brings radio into their lives. Soon, he begins to take advantage and becomes apart of their lives. He is kicked out of town by both the law and the clergy. Hard to say that this movie is a comedy or a love story because at many times during the movie, both are absent. At the end of the movie, the Narrator vanishes, the 2 young (and most attractive people in the movie) leave and the man with his radio is kicked out only to enter another city. Unable to show who this movie is about, there is no star of the film. Leaving questions unanswered and having no hard-line moral to share with the audience, the Day Silence Died is a nice little story but far from anything amazing or news worthy.

See This Gem

A lovely little piece of cinema. This one has humor, drama, romance, Ernest Hemingway, some very odd and entrancing characters, incredibly beautiful scenery, and a breathtakingly beautiful young star. Even if you don't speak Spanish and don't like subtitles, check this one out. You won't be disappointed!

The day that Silence Died (Comedy Romance a la Criolla)

It shows the reality on small towns like this one, this town was 400 years old before it was destroyed by an earthquake, but this shows how people behave on small towns like this one. In this case the country is Bolivia, but it could be on Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, etc only the accent changes. Abelardo well interpreted by Dario Grandinetti (An Argentinian Actor) Arrives to a small town without any technology (not even electricity) And brings with him progress (A small radio station called "RADIO NOBLEZA" and along with it a time bomb that would explode on any minute.

Bravo for this Bolivian movie that shows us a young Paolo Agazzi (Director) that on the years to come will show us, how great director he will become.

On the DVD there is a small documentary of Totora (the town).

The innocence of a town ruined for progress
Arien_Kartheiser3 September 2006
This movie is not brilliant, but shows us the way the progress ruins lives (just like Tolkien said) A Man Sick with Love and anger, a girl who suffer him, and a Guy that loves her no matter what. A Small town full of weirdos and the town, the beautiful Town I've been one of the rare lucky persons who met the town before a earthquake destroyed it, while they were filming this, and the place is amazing, actors not well-known but at least not on this side of the world... Elias Serrano is Amazing being the irate man his character demands, he's so soft spoken that you'll never believe he could be the same. When Dario Grandinetti's character gets into 'Villa Serena' with his radio station the worst of every person in town comes out, every flaw nastier than the other, you can see yours reflected there.

A bit funny, a bit Bizarre, a bit romantic and completely magic in a Town over 400 years old this is a story about life, where nothing special happens but everything changes. If you're from a small country or you had lived in one you'll find this good. If you ever lived/visited a small colonial town you'll feel like you're there, the last remains of Totora.
