The mouse beats up the cat. He works out by using the spring on a mouse trap for calisthenics, then beats up on a number of dogs. Other mice flee in terror at his approach. So do street lamps, in this remarkably funny Aesop's Fable from Paul Terry.
It's not just the turning of tables in this cartoon that I find so funny, but the large number of gags. Because Terry turned out these cartoons on such a tight schedule and such a tight budget (the distributor, Pathe, was not the home of big-budget production), most of the Fables would be a basic idea, several well-worn gags, and get on to the next cartoon. Clearly this one inspired the staff to greater heights than usual.
